Painted stripes, removing edge
Hello,
I did some painting for the first time, painted some stripes and used 3m plastic tape. The stripes came out good but how do I cut down the high edge ? I don't plan to put a clear coat. Thanks, L |

STRIPES
Not much you can do now but wet sand it with 1000/1500/2000 wet and buff it(not easy or fun if you have not done this before I would not recommend it) or you could wet sand it and clear it.
The solution to your problem would have been to peal the tape off while it was still wet very carefully this will allow the paint edges to flow out much smoother. |

Actually the edges are very clean, but I painted a a little too thick on the stripes so it collected in the groove created by the edge of the tape.

paint ridges
Phil,
So what you are saying after you get your colors on if you are clearing the entire finish you can lightly wetsand the ridges down with some 1000/1500/2000? While wet sanding what concerns should I have about the finish on the plane? Patrick. |

When you wet sand be careful about how much you sand around the edges use a very light paper I use 2000 grit. One more thing don’t try this on any metallic colors only solids.

What kind of plane and where are the stripes at. |

Its an Extra, horizontal stripes along the side of the cowl,
I'll probably sand as you say and put a coat of clear, but don't have time to do it this weekend. Is it ok to sand next week then spray the clear on ? |

How close will sanding with 2000 and buffing compound come to
an original non polished shine ? |

You can wait as long as you like it never hurt to let paint sun cure. Make sure before you start to wet sand you pre clean (wax &grease remover) real good first.
As for a shine if you buff it right it will look wet! |
