I am working in a Mirage III and I am thinking in how make the landing gear, in the real plane one piston acts over the leg, but the piston is special or s a simple piston ??? Robert Seldmeier and son had the same system is the Mirage 2000, someone know how is this ??? I show you some photos of the LG of Mirage III from sudafrican team in Hungarian Jet World Master (2005). and.. someone know the sudafrican man ??? I want to know how run this LG type, with a only piston actuating over the leg, why the leg no close when the plane is in the floor??? Where are the block system in this LG type ??? The Mirage of the photos has this system. Are like Mig-29 Skymaster of JetLegend, the LG not is a common retract. You do understand me now ??? Many thank in advance. Carlos MÃ*rquez. |

It is a standard cylinder, the locking on the up and down positions are done by a secondary cylinder on scale RC models, they are sequenced, the reason for this is that the real Mirage has landing gear that moves up and forward at an angle to retract, to do this on models, the pivot axle of the retract is not parallel to the ground, it is actually at a negative angle towards the front, this is done this way so that the wheel will lay flat on the wing when retracted while still having the gear on sthe scale position in the wing, if done with conventional retracts, the wheel would sit at an angle in the wing and would actually not fit on the wheel well. Again, since conventional retract units cannot be used, what is done is the use of a secondary locking system. On the AD Mirage, the trunions have orifices where a "cam" (actually a very small air cylinder) will slide on these orifices to lock the legs up, or down, this also means that a sequenced operation has to be in place since the 'cam" has to unlock before the leg can be moved either up or down, and again has to lock after movement stops. The units on your pictures show the pivot shaft angle on the retract base. The only other nodel that has similar operation and is available with conventional retract mechanisms is the C-ARF Mig 15, yet the forward angle is less pronouced than in the Mirage, this allows a conventional retract unit to be installed in the wing at an angle rather than flat. also keep in mind that if electric retract actuators are used, you do not need the secondary locks, if the gear ratio on the actuator is high enough or a worm drive is used (almost all use this)it will be able to lock on the up and down positions |

Many thanks for your answer, yes, now understand it. The second piston make the block for the LG not close. I know how run the real LG in Mirage III, there are another modeller in this forum making the scale LG, I will try it too and the question of the pistons is very important for get it.
