F104g 1:4 scale
Hello,
this is the second flight of my new 1:4 scale Starfighter. Not yet painted, I'll paint it as soon as possible. 29 kg at take off, behotec 165, all wood. I draw it myself using catia, all parts are laser-cut. I hope that you like it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu2x9PQjk7c regards damiano |

I could only start something like that when I retire:D. Full time job and 4 kids;) The landing gear is commercial or did you do it yourself? The plane seems very low on the ground. Congratulations Nuno |

The gears are made by Behotec(very strong, the best), distance from ground is (about)in scale. My target are not to build a superscale but a "weekend model", I make about 10 flight per week and I want to reduce maintenance timing as much as possible.

I can cut my model in 9 parts: nose, front fuselage, central fuselage, rear fuselage with rudder, elevator, 2(little)wings, 2 wing tank. In a little station wagon with 3 persons I transport it with all tools! damiano |

Fantastic work and what a beautiful flight and landing!
hoping not asking too much, but would like to see details on how the fuselage splits in parts and how the parts are attached. Also found interesting why square section main spars where used in the wings..and certainly look plenty strong! Enrique |

To select the section of bar I calculate the force on wing @ 10g, I check what my aluminum supplier has and his material then I make some finite elements analysis to obtain @ 10g the maximum stress lower then yeld. The used material is EN AW 6082 T6, Rp =250 Mpa and Rm =310 Mpa 20x15 mm thickness=1.3mm. 2 bars are little bit over dimensioned (max stress obtained in traction is about 190MPa), this is not the ideal section, but it is the best solution that I find from my alu supplier! This kind of calculation was done before starting to engineers the model, the same methodology was used to calculate the gears support. Thanks Damiano, and great model analysis .. also a good thing about beefing up the wing is making it plenty rigid for holding those big tip tanks without any oscillation.
