The servo tray fitout. Should rename it the money tray, not many servos get used these days.

RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Very nice, and interesting how you have recessed the electronics inside the board. What's under the hatch?

RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Battery connection, charge leads, fuel pump and pilot picnic blanket :-)
|
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
How are you supporting the orbit and rx? Looks clean.
Also, how close is your pump to the rx? I'm working on an install now (not a t38) and the ecu is a long way from the rx but the pump is close to the rx. I'm thinking this needs to be reworked? |
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
My fuel pump is approx 150mm away from Rx. It's always good practice to keep the two fairly well separated even tho the electronics today offer much better suppression than years ago. Unfortunately electricity/magnetism don't always follow the rules, so why risk it.
Rx is supported by a sub-tray which is screwed to blocks underneath the main tray. |

Engine Bypass and Engine:
The supplied by-pass duct in my kit is huge, it could easily house a 180 class engine. To get it to fit in, it needed to be modified which is engineering speak for butchered. A slot needed to be cut at the 6 o'clock position to clear the forward engine former. With the duct sitting in position I applied heat to the upper area of the slot just cut and remolded the sides of the duct to clear the former. PITA really, but as the nain wheel wells are positioned at the intake area, the by-pass duct is necessary. The tail pipe bellmouth is silicon mounted in the rear of the by-pass duct then the very rear of the by-pass is cut down to expose the bellmouth spigot. The tail pipe align's to this and is retained by the straps secured to the bypass duct. The engine I chose to use is a Kingtech 140F which fits perfectly and aligns nicely centered to the tail pipe. The ECU, Valves and Ball Valve are mounted to a plate on top of the main tank. It could have gone further forward under the canopy but at this stage I was starting to get a little concerned of nose weight, anyway it looks ok where it is and is practical. |

Just about complete, with engine runs done, radio programmed and minor tidy up work complete. I did also add a better canopy locking method to guard against the single hatch latch failing in flight.
At the moment no extra ballast is needed and the test flight will happen as is. On the ground there is no better words for it than "Sex with Wings" Thats what I think!! |
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Very nice !!
when is the test-flight... |
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Just workin on the weather :))

RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Thats great! I love the plane, hope we will se the maiden video!
Good luck! :D |
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Hey Phil,
When do you get time to build so quickly and neatly and still mow your grass? Can't wait to see it fly. F20's coming along nicely Cole |
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Its easy Cole, goes something like this:
"Listen here woman, Im busy in the shed, after you finish doing the ironing, cleaning and makin my dinner get out there and cut the grass"....................i hope she doesnt see this. |
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
ORIGINAL: kevinthoele I have been flying my Skymaster T38 for a couple years. They fly and land wonderfully nose high. The elevator stick is now almost full up on touchdown. With RTI motor I have shot the T38 at 198 straight and level flight. It is a real pleasure to fly. Good luck with yours! |
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Yes it is a 28 pound class engine. Plenty of power. The new Kingtech as spoken earlier I think is perfect. That will give 200 top end and still nice landing speed

Any updates on this project?
Cheers! Chris |
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Lots of pretty carbon fiber!
I've always been worried about carbon fiber and radio interference. I prefere the carbon fiber looking stuff that Todd sells. |
RE: Skymaster T38 Talon
Finally!! Someone putting some info out there about the SM T-38! I have always been curious about this airplane. I have yet to find any video of one flying..... a SM T-38 flying that is. If anyone knows of one, please post it.
