When to replace a thrust tube?
I recently had an exciting start in my F15 and had flames coming from my thrust tube(s) ... I think the flames were from a ruptured gas input line feed the turbine from the front ... the thrust tube looks ok on inspection and gas and fuel was turned off pretty quick ... Also I have a Wren Supersport that on installation the first few starts (kero start) also were pretty fierce and again on start small blue flames were evident swirling around the intake to the thrust tube (all looks ok)...
My question is, is it easily determinable when the thrust tube is damaged due starting issues and needs replaceing? Does anybody have and photos etc for reference? Regards, Scott. |
RE: When to replace a thrust tube?
You would want to pay particular attention to the inside joints, and where it splits into two.<div></div><div>If you are not 100% sure its ok, I would replace it as it’s a small cost to the cost of replacing the entire plane including turbine. Yes total loss does happen, and its very costly.</div><div></div>

RE: When to replace a thrust tube?
If the thrust tube developes any wrinkles or discoloration as a result of hotstarts or a startup fire, the tube should be replaced.
