How to desolve Hysol

Hello,

I bought an FEJ F-86 and when it was delivered to me, i unfortunately noticed that the wingtaks are glued to the wings, and it is very difficult to use transport. WOuld it be better just to leave them as they are, or should i try to use something to dissolve the glue and repaint the wings?

Thanks,

If it is Hysol, you can dissolve it with a mixture of dynamite and C4.

heat will make hysol loosen up but it can be hard to get enough heat to soften the hysol and not do damage to the paint..

Are you sure the tanks are glued on and not bolted on? That would be pretty dumb if they did that.

+1 Heat will do the trick. I use a monokote heat gun, Do Not use a Lowes type heat gun.

Hi,

I second what Gunn said. You're not going to get cured hysol hot enough to be able to pry your parts apart without getting the parts hot enough to do damage to them.

Use an old soldering iron. You can use the tip to put the heat right where you want it to melt away the Hysol.

If you are trying to get between two surfaces you may try a hot wire like used to cut a foam wing. You could practice a bit with some glue and parts and play with the temp.

I have used a rope saw in the past to remove formers, get some pull pull wire or steel fishing leader and make a rope saw don't get the plastic coated stuff ,wrap it around some good size wooden dowels and start sawing ,i have used this method to take old air tanks out that were hysoled in also the good thing is the cable can be as long as it needs to be say from the wing tip to the root so you get a nice flat pull

IF you can get to the joint I have had luck with a torch, and a red hot heavy duty X-acto blade. (the blade is sacrificed of course) Scotty
