I have an opportunity to purchase one of these turbines. I have very little experience with turbines, and a quick google search provided very little information. As you can see fro the pictures, it is still in the box, and I believe all the necessary items are in there, with the exception of the readout screen.

1. What is the current worth of this turbine?
2. Are these turbines still available?
3. What about parts and service?
4. Is there an electric start option available?

I have a Byron BD-5J that might be the receiver of this turbine. Would 18lbs of thrust be enough for the BD-5J? The plane is not complete, so I do not have an overall weight yet.

Thanks
Rafael

If you have little experience with turbines then this is a bad idea even if you are offered one free.

Current worth, not much, but interesting display engine on a shelf.

No they have not been made for many years

No parts and service available and the ECU is not supported

No there is no electric start option

Go and buy a used P80 or if you can afford it a Kingtech 80 or a Jets Munt VT80 and go flying.

If you don't have it, let me know as it would be a great addition to the museum.

I was about to say, packaged like that I think it is of more value as a collectable. I wonder even if Mr. Hoya has one this nice?

It's remarkably over engineered yet still a somewhat unreliable turbine. I think it is one of the better 850's, this one was made in Japan with the twin feed oil pump, some were made in Germany and these tended to have a very unreliable single feed oil pump. Like others have said I think it would be a shame to run it. To answer your question on the handset, they are available and most jet modellers a have a couple in their spare box.

Its posted here in the Classifieds:

I think I will pass on it. I dumped a helicopter and an EDF this past weekend. And the responses here are exactly what I was expecting.
