JetCat servicing for UK users

Does anyone have any recent experience having a service done?

I need bearings replaced on a P120 and guess that this probably means a service. I have tried contacting both JetCat and Turbine Rescue and neither have responded. I have heard that JetCat have very long turnaround times, anyone confirm or deny this?

Thanks

RE: JetCat servicing for UK users

I sent a P80 for a service about a year ago and the service was slow. It was even longer than the slow time that I was quoted and I would possibly allow several weeks to be on the safe side[&o] The delay was in queuing to have it looked at. Once I was at the front of the queue and told what work needed doing, the engine was back with me in a few days. If you're lucky then there might not be too many ahead of you.

The quality of work is good though. I sent mine in wrapped in bubble wrap as I didn't have a box for it. It came back in a new box, with a new case and looked like a brand new engine:D

Hi Andrew,

Talk to Dave Wilshere at M&R...he seems to have very close links with JetCat and has always managed my Jetcat servicing very well, and I've never had probs with turn round times. I did hear say that a JetCat service centre was being set up in the UK...haven't heard anything more on it though for a loooong time.

Cheers,

Dick

RE: JetCat servicing for UK users

Only yesterday I had a brief conversation with the ever helpful Dave from motors and rotors, I had asked him that very question and he did say-not his quote but my recollection, that jetcat have a 2 week holiday/shutdown period, although I am not sure of the date I got the feeling it was very soon.
There after you have to consider the potential backlog.
If the bearing is just a little noisy then monitor it for a change in pitch and return it when you are not going to fly much-that could be the winter? or the summer depending on how you judge the weather.
Winter-cold, calm, sunny, frost, snow,
Summer-wet, windy, drought.
Mark

Thanks all for your responses.

My P120 is an old one which came installed in a recently acquired classic Flash.According to the ECU it had only 3.6 hours previous timeThe plane has been flown about six times since I picked it up and initially the turbine sounded fine. However, at Long Marston at the weekend it started to make a 'not right' whining noise when shut down. The noise continued as the starter motor went through its cooling cycle.Geoff W heard it and came over wincing and he tells me he thinks the bearings are buggered. I am reluctant to continue using it and risk a catastrophic failure. By the way, the rest of the turbine looks to be in good shape, the blades look fine and there is no evidence of damage.

I really do not want to spend a load of money on an old and relatively low value turbine. I also don't want to end up waiting months before I see it back again whilst it sits in a queue in Germany. Rather naively I was expecting to receive a similar level of service from JetCat that I have enjoyed from Jets Munt; particularly given how many people have chosen to buy them.

I will talk to Dave W tomorrow.<br type="_moz" />

Andrew
Speak later. In the early days of JetCat they were like Jets Munt....then they sold thousands of turbines. Its fair to say that the service dept has not grown at the same rate and there are many reasons for this. Recent times have been average, I have two P-20SE's on the way back now from crash damage, weeks not months on those, but as Mark said they go on summer shut down soon which will slow things down a little. I'll make a call and speak to you later.

Andrew,

I certainly wouldn't risk running the turbine any more if the bearings sound rough. Definitely get it serviced !

POST EDITED SO AS TO PROMOTE WORLD PEACE :D

Colin

RE: JetCat servicing for UK users

I decided to ask Christian (Chrigui) to replace the bearings on my JetCat and it is on its way to Italy right now. I did hear back from JetCat and right now they have a 6 week backlog with a week factory shutdown to be added to that. Christian is keen to offer a service/repair service to gas turbine owners and the two threads he inked to in his post certainly suggest to me that he know what he is doing! He has promised a quick turnaroundhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

I will post results in due course.<br type="_moz" />

RE: JetCat servicing for UK users

The engine is maybe partially rebuild / service maintenance after failure / crash
some parts of engine are new some parts are used
the CC have some bad spot weld point but in good condition
The injector needle was partially blocked
the shaft is kj66 style with M6 left on the rear
Egv can suffer of non uniform thermal dilatation/distortion that can cause turbine wheel touch

I am absolutely delighted with what chrigui has done with my turbine.

Christian received it only last Friday! He has kept me updated right through the week on what he has found and the work he has done to rectify faults and recondition it.

This turbine was something of an unknown quantity as it came installed in a Flash which I bought as a package. The P120 had only 3.5 hours on the ECU, but that seemed unlikely on an engine as old as this. I suspect that the ECU was probably swapped somewhere along the way.

My P120 arrived back in the UK, serviced/repaired, just 6 working days after being delivered to Christian in Italy. I flew it (four flights) for the first time today and it is absolutely great. Sounds super smooth, starts easily, spool up is noticably faster than before.
I want to say a big thank you toChristian forgreat quality work, super communications, amazing turnaround time and reasonable pricing too. Highly recommended!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

Hi Guys
Bumping up this old thread, now that it's 2019 - what's the latest on the best place for servicing JetCats? I have a P20 that's coming up for a service soon.
Anywhere in the UK? Is Chrigui in Italy still servicing?
