The New Airtech Struts for the Ultra Flash

Has anyone had a chance to try out the new struts? They would be used on the Flash. Brand new articulation. Sort of taking away the need to modify the older ones when you needed to straighten them out to fit into the retract space in the wing. They still use the 6mm pins. Sort of wish we had a choice with 1/2 inch trunions. But they look better in several ways.
John

Wish i could put them on a Bandit. They have longer springs, and dont get sprung with a bounced landing.

Will post pictures, as it is likely that the perception is that the new struts are 1 year old by now. Not so these are new as of two weeks ago.

They seem to answer the problem of needing a straighter strut in extension. They also have a definite stop to their compression. The knee is offset, like the ProLink, which allows the straighter extension without risking a lockout. Im not sure if we experienced lock out, but it seemed likely, in a theoretical way, if you came down on the old strut without moving forward, or if your bearings were well lubed and you came down more vertically.
It also has a new hole in the ankle for the air brake tube to keep it out of the way nicely. Will post this view of the brake tube access hole. (It takes a long time for the iphone to send to my computer, then down load it, then browse for it then upload it. Can there possibly be a faster way?)

Do not have the new ones, but hundreds of flights on my Elan and Tomahawk 2M viper using the airtech struts and brakes. Best quality so far.
Take all the pics on the iphone then download them into the mac using the cable, then upload to RCU.

Chatty.

Namaste Mr Makhija, (i hope that is the correct dialect. I dont speek all the various languages of India) all help in these maneuvers is appreciated. I hope you send in a picture of your UF:) Mine should be here any day, then i will have to put it together. Mr Ray Labonte, our N. American rep at least got me some good gear, as i await the plane. The gear comes form his store, the plane from a warehouse in Arizona i believe.

I think you will find these even better! This shows the hole in the leg for the brake tube to go through. I havnt fitted them yet. Still waiting for the plane. The brake nipple is in front on mine, and i believe this hole will take the tube further up and away from the turning wheel, to keep those rubbed through brake failures to a minimum. These pictures also show the offset built into the strut, and therefore the improved straighter leg in whole.

Just finishing my flash now and I am concerned about this strut. With no fuel on the plane if I compress the struts they only rebound about 1/2 way. No way will these springs work for me. Have you guys modified or changed the spring?

Thanks

Can you measure the spring wire diameter?

RE: The New Airtech Struts for the Ultra Flash

Wire diameter is .72 MM.

You mean 1.72mm ;)
He does a 2.0mm spring which sounds more like what you need. Anyone you know coming to JetPower next week?

Yep, that's what I meant. ;-)
Unfortunately I do not know anyone going.

:)
See if Andy has any Lightning springs in stock in the US, its the same length and 2.1mm dia.
or to fly it now put some large heat shrink tube over the spring and leg...or even electrical tape three or four layers and either method will still allow the spring to work and stop the sagging
