Ok, so a friend of mine , suggested that i use a pump he had lying around as a smoke pump
this is a kingtech pump of a k80 turbine, that is not being used

has anyone ever done something like this before?

sounds interesting ....

RE: smoke pump

We do it with old jetcat pumps and it works great. If Kingtech uses a brushed motor, just buy a Brushed motor esc to operate the pump.

Perfect!! cheap brushed controller 2 cell pack of either A123 or little lipo/ion.. however another thing I did is put a switch on mine, so I dont have to unplug it.. the current draw is small enough..

This is exactly what I did. Simple brushed speed controller and a used/worn ou turbine pump plus a simple A123 pack. Works a treat!

Made my own smoke nozzle as well with some 1/8 OD stainless tubing but you can also order them online from Dreamworks, etc.

I did the same thing. I have an old turbine fuel pump on a 10 amp BRUSHED E-flight speed control. I run a 4 cell 600mAh nicade pack. I get 3 flights on it before I have to charge it. BE SURE TO REMOVE THE RED POWER WIRE FROM THE LEAD THAT PLUGS INTO YOUR RX when running a separate battery for the smoke pump.

Here are a couple of pics and a Video of my F-15. The smoke system is in the center line tank. All I do when I want to use it is hook up a fuel line and a servo lead to the tank.

Everything for the smoke is in the center line drop tank. This includes a 32 oz. smoke tank the smoke pump and speed controller, Battery and a small 4 oz. Helicopter header tank. This is so you don/t get the broken smoke during Negative G maneuvers. . Also I used 3/16 brass tubing between the double wall of the tail pipe and exit it at the end of the tail pipe. I don't want the mess inside the tail pipe and I don't want the chance of a fire. I have seen it happen. When filling the smoke tank, you must also clamp or valve off the before or after the pump. If not the pressure from filling the tank will push smoke oil past the pump and out the nozzle. This makes a big mess (ask me how I know)

One more thing that is important is to put a one way check valve between the pump and the injector nozzle. If you don't, the pressure from the thrust of the turbine can cause the pump to lose its prime.

Hope this helps
