BVM Smooth Stop

Hi All,

I have a BVM Smooth stop that I upgraded to the smooth stop II plunger. When all aired up to about 60 psi, I here a little hiss coming from around the plunger and sleeve. Do the sleeves wear for some reason? The Smooth Stop II plunger is brand new, purchased 3 weeks ago.

Thanks for you time and help!

I love everything BVM apart from Smoothstop's. Every single one I have had leaked. Got rid of them all, fitted a non proportional valve and kept the O rings lubed.

Wow!! I just installed a new BVM Smooth stop in a bird I bought used a week ago and it is still holding air. I also have a Hawk that I pick up last fall used with first verson smooth stop valve that I have not flown but it holds air after testing new radio for the past 3 days so for. I have a FEJ f-16 with there brake values and it is junk! I new to the brakes so what do you use for the non-proportional?

I have never had a problem with any of the BVM Smooth stops that i have. If you are hearing a Hiss pull the plunger out and make sure that you did not plug the hole on the end with O-ring lube if you relubed the O-ring before you installed it.

Also you have to make sure that the linkage is running in a straight line with out any binding on the plunger during the movement of the servo and plunger.

Have to say I have owned/used multiple smooth stops over the years and everyone one of them leaked at sometime. The fix is just to simply relube them or in some cases replace the o-rings. Personally, I think there are better choices such as jet tronics brake valve or UP6 but each to their own.

If you take advantage of the free upgrade, I will be shocked if it ever leaks again. How's that for confidence! LOL

Now if you pack it full of dirt, well, you can keep it.

Hi,

If you ever do get a chance, give the UP-6 a try. Never looked back when I need proportional...

I have two Smooth stops. One new Ver II and one I converted. Both hold air for a long time. I do coat the o-rings and sleeves two or three times a season with air tool oil. Never use Vasaline on these o-rings. Ever.

BVM had a recent problem with the Smooth stops. They will repair for free. Give them a call. This was posted on their website a few weeks ago.
