Two quick questions....

Question 1. I have an older jet that I am trying to get back into the air a hotspot. When it was built by the original owner he put the fuel tank in so it could not be removed. Well when I put the plane away I emptied the tank the best I could. How do I and what do I use to flush the tank out with to ensure there is no mold in the tank. I was thinking of using some acetone but not sure if that would hurt the kevlar tank or not. After flushing it with the acetone I was also going to fill and flush with Jet A fuel to get the acetone out. What do you guys think?

Question 2. Same jet. When it was originally built with screws through the top of wing as a mounting method instead of the wood tongue method. I don't have the complete measurement for that piece of wood. I know it is 5 ply hardwood which is 1/4" thick, and 1/2" wide I just don't know how long that piece is. Does someone have a measurement of that length?

Thanks,

Patrick

RE: Two quick questions....

I personally would not fly the plane unless I was able to replace the clunk line. There is a good chance that the line has hardened give how long the plane has been sitting around.

Flush out the tank with gasoline, that will kill any algae. Then flush with kero or Jet A to get the gasoline out. Replace ALL fuel lines and filters. If you have a UAT then that needs to be flushed just like the tank and the filter sock replaced.

See the "Consensus of Hot Spots" thread on this forum-several pages back. There's some good info posted from many Hot Spot pilots.

About every 2 years I  pull the tanks on my planes and go through them. The tubing on the clunks and stopper is loose even with safety wire. I would try to get the tank out and do it right. Not worth loosing a jet over it. Dan

Art,
I tried to find that thread to ask the question in but could not find it. Even did a search on the word hotspot and it seems to have been deleted or something.
