How to choose the right engine for your application
I've just finished an article on my blog on how to choose the right jet engine for your model.

You're welcome. I am going to expand the database with more brands. Also I realized tat the engines having their valves and/or ECU included are being disadvantaged with this method. What I am going to do is substract the weight of the ECU and valve for these engines. 60 grs for ECU, 10 grs for 1 valve. I will come up with a modified table for the following engines: All Kingtech G series, Jetcat Rxi, Merlin engines.

Great table! I think it could almost be titled "best bang for your buck" list :) I find it interesting that the "cheaper" engines have floated to the top of most of the lists when you apply a linear relationship between outright performance and price. Quick question, Why isn't there isn't the K80 on your table? Do you suspect that the list might move around a little if the thrust figures used were not manufactures spec's but actual ISA adjusted thrust measurements? Because I do remember that the is some variance between the published figures versus what the turbine could actually produce. Thanks Dave P.s. Item 4, is puce a new engine performance parameter that i've never heard of?:D |

I can only improve it with people reading it with a critical eye and giving me this kind of feedback. I have added the K80G in the table ( simply forgot it somehow ) and corrected the typo. I don't think that the list would move much with actual test data ( and I have a first hand experience on that matter as you probably know it ). As you certainly know, all serious manufacturers test their engines before shipping and record the thrust corrected to ISA in a data base. Some manufacturer chose to ship your engine with a comprehensive set of tables from this test ( Bf-Turbines, Behotec ). Some other keep it unpublished ( most of the others in fact). The thrust put on their web site usually corresponds to the recorded thrust on the top of their range. So all in all, there would be some fluctuations within a few% but it would not change the overall table. |

The new table is on the blog with the K-80G added and all engines including valves/ ECU/ pump corrected by a factor in bracket.
