Torus CG
I'm not questioning where but how to CG the Torus. In the manual, it says to CG with wheels down (normal) but with the canopy removed. Could someone explain why to CG with canopy off?

I have just read the manual because I thought maybe you had mis read the owners booklet. But you are correct about removing the canopy to balance. It must be a mistake, it doesnot make any sense. So I would like to hear the answer also. Personally I would balance it just like any other plane. Clay |

RE: Torus CG
Hi Bob,
I put it like that in the manual like that because the Torus is a heavy model. That way makes it easier to lift, and is a simple fast way to check it out, so it's how I do it myself. Also, it ensures that the first flights are not made with the model tail heavy! You'll note that I also give the CG position as right on the front spar. If you have a balancing set up that will take 30 lbs of model, great. but if not you can do it the easy way that I suggest. Another way is to hang the whole model up on two loops of strong cord round the front spar each side of the centre wing if you have an overhead beam to attach it to. Any way is OK, but lifting it up with the hatch off takes 10 seconds! It's a quick way to check it using the K.I.S.S. principle. Hence the suggestion ! |
