RE: Xtreme F-16 1/6.75

Hi

Would be nice to have some more pics and impressions of this frame.

Also, what would be the correct diameter for afterburner lights?

Regards

Nuno

Hi Nuno,

here are some pics.
The diameter from the pipe is about 95 mm and the nozzle 135 mm, hope this helps.
I have a Afterburner ring with 108mm diameter that i will install.

Any more news on this kit? I'm debating between this and another kit for my 2014 project.

Hi Dieselman,

here are some pics from my EDF conversion and the Video from the Maiden flight.
I only had the Maidenflight until now but the flight was great for me.

Ah go with the other kit.

Hello

I got 2 of these in my garage. One for me and another for a friend that I will be building. Maybe I'll start a building thread. Overall quality is very good, but some minor parts missing in the kit.

Paint job and overall quality is very good. Some problems with fuel tanks as well. One will go with P90RXI and another with a P160 SE.

Fuel tanks capacity is 3,1 liters. Not that much for a 160, but I guess I'll improve it

Nuno

Any one have one if these they are currently working on? How is the quality of the kit? Parts fit, paint? Looks like they changed up the wing retention method from the 1/6 scale

Flynstuff 01-15-2014 10:27 PM

Hi There

The X-treme jets kits all the have same quality as the larger Skymaster kits.

Carbon spars, Live hinging and light weight. The fit and finish is superb. Full cockpit tub as well..

jetnuno 01-16-2014 02:53 PM

Sorry, but X-trem line does not have the same quality as SM line. For starters the gear has less quality both in materials and machining. SM gear is made by Likai and beat to dead the X-treme LG quality.

Fiber lay up is the same. Live hinge concept is the same in both lines. Paint job depending a lot on the painter, but maybe the best ones work with SM :-)

Also the SM cockpits have a better quality. Comparing my SM F4 and Big Hawk with This F16

For this baby, I ended up with a P100 and my frien already flew with a P90RXi. Graet flyer, but a lot of things to deal with, mainly with gear.

Nuno

Just put one together and it has maidened. The kit was a good fit, the aircraft flew like it was on rails at the recommended CG. The rear undercarriage touches the doors on the way down and back up is the only issue I had with the aircraft. I moved the air system to compensate only to put it back where it was. Their position of the air struts was correct, but I feel the struts could have been a little longer for the doors to move out of the way more.

Thanks for the info guys. If you've got some pics of your planes and setups they'd be appreciated. Thanks

How was the power with the 90 rxi and the p100?

Dieselman1220 01-16-2014 09:12 PM

I called Bvm a few months back to order one. According to Dustin xtreme was no longer selling them due to issues with the gear.

jetnuno 01-17-2014 02:12 AM

Hi
I have started a building thread of one of the birds, but ended the building without posting that much. Sorry..... The P90RXi is more than enough power, but not inlimited vertical, though it can climb for several seconds. More than enough, I can assure and that is why I gave up on the idea of installing the P160. I will put a P100 in mine.

The gear is somehow tricky, but with a little skill, it can be handled. The alu and steel are very soft and I replaced the shafts and king pin with a hard steel and it is handling fine.

Another tricky part of this kit are fuel tanks. they didn't fit and my dear friend Carlos ended up by making new fuel tanks for both birds. One thing that concerns me is that the elevator shaft is not in proper position. The first F16 is flying fine, but one of the elevator servos is jittering and don't know if it is because of the big unbalance, power supply or because of the sft linkage (ball bearing in both ends).

I am happy with the bird, nice price and so one, but still makes me mad to know that with a little more effort from SM, an oustanding model could be done

Nuno

It's starting to sound like it's not the same quality as it's bigger brother. That's a shame, it's a good looking model and a good size for it too. Flynstuff, could you check with the factory and confirm if these issues have been corrected? Thank you

parker

Flynstuff 01-17-2014 06:20 PM

I just confirmed. The factory has the 1/6.75 F-16 on hold. They are working on a possible gear upgrade and a G2 version.
I will keep everyone informed.

BoomerSooner 01-17-2014 07:33 PM

Thank you for checking on these issues. Please post any updates to this thread.

Hello,

if someone have problems with the maingear retracting, just remove the 2 small air cylinders at the back ;-)

jetnuno 01-19-2014 01:10 PM

Hello Reinhard

I don't believe this is a good solution. How would you lock the main gear? Those cilinderslock the mains in the gear down position. The major problems I have with the gear are

1 - The front gear as a driving pin from the cilinder to drive the gear. this is made from a soft steel and it already bend and broke with a hard landing
2 - Aluminum is very soft and the M4 threads were ripped of. Already made these with M5

I did not experience any probles with main gear. Did you?

Best regards

Hello friends:

Pretty tanks Nuno, ha,ha,ha. 3.5L now of capacity in your F-16.
Really the model have a good relation price-quality.
It's pretty, medium size and more important thing, it's cheaper that big brother 1/6 Scale.
Regards from Spain.
Carlos.

Hi Nuno,

i had sometimes trouble that one Maingear didnīt retract because the locking pin didnīt get back fast enough.
I tried most erverything to delay the air for the maincylinders with no 100% sucess. So i looked at the construction closely
and didnīt find a reason to left them on and removed them. Since then, every retract cyclus was perfect with no blockade or so.
If you look at Likais F16 1/6 maingear, there are also only the 2 maincylinders. If the air pressure is there, there is no problem because
all the force in landing came from the front. My F16 sits in my Hobbyroom for a while now without any air in the tanks and still stays perfect.
The maingear only gave up when i move the scissor on the main strut, then itīs time to fill some air in.
For the front gear, unfortunately you are absolutly right, i gave this unit to a friend to replace the soft materials to better ones, the construction itself is ok.
I hope to get this update soon because i mostely fly off grassurfaces.

Thanks for the info guys. Waiting to hear the outcome.
