Weatronic Telemetry Tips
3 Attachment(s)
Today I tried the Weatronic telemetry for the first time (Finally due to the English voice file!). I have the Mux-box with the airspeed, current and temperature sensors.
My goal is to use the airspeed to improve consistency of my landings. In the Mux-box, you can setup the time interval for voice call outs of the airspeed. In the current firmware, the fastest interval is every 10 seconds. I know there has to be a limit to how fast, otherwise there is no time to finish speaking the airspeed before the next interval comes, but I think Weatronic was too conservative. I estimate that a jet going from base to final and touchdown may take be about 13 to 20 seconds. at 10 sec interval there is not enough information to adjust your power setting. Fortunately, there is a flag that allow the immediate voice call-out when switching into the mode. I figure that with my trusty Futaba 12FG, I could create a P-Mix that will switch the signal to the Weatronic faster, and hand-off, that manually flipping the switch on-off myself. With approach, I was able to get about 6 call-outs in 21 seconds by just flipping a switch.:D Attached are the key screens for the P-Mix setup, and a link to the video to show it works (btw, I also used a blower to increase the airspeed to about 30 miles to confirm there is enough time to say higher speeds than the one in the video. Next Im going to use the current sensor connected to the pump to estimate fuel consumption and get myself a low fuel alarm. http://youtu.be/MhazCtQ5lQQ |
This is a way to do it.
My technique is to program the low speed warning at 1.3 Vs. As soon as I hear "warning" I know that I have hit the sweet spot. In that case 10 seconds interval for the speed readout is good enough for me. I don't want to have the co--pilot talking constantly at me. I just need the relevant information. |

Like you approach. I may used it later or maybe put a too fast / too slow window with the alarms. Want to get a good feeling on approach speeds, so will put up with the nagging voice for now :D |
