A usefull Tip
1 Attachment(s)
The other day I fitted the wing fences to my Mig 15 and they were an ok fit but could have been better. They are just glued on with 2 liltle cut outs. The result was a gap beneath them and the wing surface which I thought looked bad. A friend of mine gave me this tip which has resulted in an excellent finish.
I simply mixed my 5 min epoxy with a small amount of red paint and made a nice red epoxy fillet with masking tape. I used a small coffee stirrer you can pick up at Macdonalds etc. Mix the paint to one portion of the epoxy before you add the other hardener for example The result is a very neat strong joint. Also the effect of the paint is to give you about 10 mins working time with the 5 min epoxy. I thought this was a neat and very useful tip. What other little tips have you got |
Intersting, as I would not have expected the epoxy to set correctly. I assume that it has or else you would not have posted. What paint did you use?

Yes it has set fine, Just took a little longer. I used the only red I had which happened to be a very close match. It is in the pic Humbrol enamel
That yellow masking tape you get from B and Q is also excellent for this sort of job |
Nice! Thanks!

Here is the other wing with the fences attached before I apply the fillet. You should be able to see the gap. I will post a similar after pic when finished
Here are the two other pics of in progress and finished |
Different paints could effect the epoxies. If you use dry pigment it would be better. Regardless, it's a good tip, and I would suggest to mix up a small test batch, to make sure it cures before putting the mix on the model.
