Rafmaa wyton - may 24/25 2014

The Officer Commanding RAF Wyton and the Royal Air Force Model Aircraft Association have once again offered to host the Jet Modellers association at a meeting to take place at RAF Wyton over the weekend of May 24 & 25 2014. Thanks must go to Squadron Leader Dempster Hamilton, Simon Hopkins and RAFMAA as well as our own Roger Kilbey for the ground work they have had to put in to make this event happen again.

RAF Wyton is situated on the A141 Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. It is one of many RAF and Ex RAF airfields in the area, it is only 10 miles away from what was RAF Alconbury. Wyton has two runways, 09 is 8250 feet long with 15 at 3406 feet which is big enough even for the 'Tancock'!

Booking in will be in the usual manner by sending your details which are to include make, model, colour and registration of your vehicle to Roger Kilbey. The cut off date for entries is Sunday May 11, bookings will not be taken after this date.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT TO GAIN ACCESS YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE IN POSSESSION OF OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION SUCH AS A DRIVING LICENCE OR PASSPORT. NO PHOTO = NO ACCESS!

Excellent news. Hopefully the meet will be as good as last year as I really enjoyed it last year.

Jamie C 01-13-2014 01:10 PM

We are hoping to be flying from the runway intersection this year, hopefully RAFMAA will be able to sort this out for us.

Looking forward to this one ;)

Weather is looking better and better. Lots of test flights booked already, even have a group from Guernsey coming up.

Started mixing and charging....

My long time Friends from the channel Islands came over for me to test fly their 10 year old (unflown) Harpoon. Now with a P-90Rxi. Andy did a great job in his two flights.

Good day in the end, had to dodge the rain showers but managed to get 4 flights in, roll on tomorrow forecast looks sunny ( ish)

Gutted I missed the dead line date for this meeting, been talking about it since Long Marston but forgot to book in. Hope the weather shines on you all.

Cheers,
Simon

Just got back from a great weekend! Bit of 'flying between the showers' yesterday, but today was great, lots of flying and 'banter'. Thanks to the JMA and all behind the scenes, bloody great weekend!:)

Dave Bugz 05-25-2014 11:16 AM

Totally agree, bloody great weekend. Always a great atmosphere, plenty of very knowledgable people around to offer help and advice and as always some great photos to reminisce over. Good ole british weather, rain, hail, wooly hat, sunshine yesterday, today sunny and a strong " breeze" who forgot to put sun cream on, yeah me as well.
Thanks JMA.

Great weekend. Breakfast with nine mates was a great start, lots of people missing (expected there) made the wrong choice, those JMA members who travelled experienced another brilliant low key weekend, endless flying. I enjoyed my fleet of four plus test flying Luke B's JL F-16 160SX...having installed and set it up on his DMSS XG-11 radio, Roland E's small BVM F-86 P-100Rx performed brilliantly and was a joy to fly, even in the slight cross wind. I was also lucky enough to have a flight on Steve J's Ultra Bandit P-200Sx and suggest some set up improvements. I also flew Dave B's CARF Viper Mk 11 P-180RX guided with Ski Pole equipped Robbe radio! |Was good to see my old boss (days of a proper job!) flying at his first jet meeting with his Xcalibur P-100Rx. Rob W "stole" his Hawk back and flew it again after an 18 month sabbatical, looked great.
Ultra Flashes (and Flashes) were everywhere, still the best sports jet available. Big G was muscling his Ultra Lightning around all weekend, lots of admiring watchers. Big Steve was grooving his AW Cougar around...he just failed to empty all his fuel containers before packing away.
Big thank you to Simon from the RAFMAA for letting us come and play at his airfield and massive thanks to Roger and Little Stevie from the JMA committee who organised the event and took our money...well worth every cent!

First lot of shots, many by Son William.

Great Weekend, with lots of flying and some quality Banter.

Long Marston next on 28th-29th June.

Looks like you guys had a good weekend! Jamie, Animal and I were holding up the British end at the Mach 2.2 Club's Paris Jet Meet...it was stellar!

See you at Long Marston!

Cheers,

Dick

Thought you'd be drinking wine and not Lager ;-)

The Guernsey boys have just left me after securing the first Xcalibur for the Islands, really enjoyed the weekend and said what a friendly bunch we all were. What its all about, I saw all the seasoned "pros" helping out less experienced flyers. It was a great advert for the hobby.
