Tonado Wing - Help
I'm looking for some thoughts on a problem.
I'm just about done with a V3 Tornado, first wing goes on no problem, second wing as I tighten the rear wing bolt I suddenly feel the blind nut spin. This isn't even tight yet, about a 1/8" gap still remains. Now how can I get the two parts back apart? Any ideas? I was thinking about wicking some hysol in the small gap and putting the front bolt in.... not sure this has any merit to it. I will not be removing the wings to transport and yes the bolt now has blue thread lock on it. Thx, Steve |
Ouch...the blue loctite may make it tough. If you really don't want to take the wings apart ever maybe push the wing in against the fuselage and hysol around the bolt inside the fuse. ??? Idk just a thought

Try wedging something under the bolt head or use locking pliers to pull on the bolt in order to try seating the blind nut best as possible. Now heat the bolt head with a soldering iron to soften the Loctite and promptly try to remove the bolt.

So as Countryboy said, I'd find something to fill the gap. Maybe take 2 small blocks of wood and cut semicircles (bolt circumference) in the wood, that way you are able to place a block either side of the nut, forming 1 big block. Then hysol the lot together. |
Thanks for the responses... so much for promptly I'm now back on the project.
If heating and wedging do not work I may just slowly grind the bolt head off. That was my last resort thought at 2 in the morning. Steve |
