I guess all sports jets will eventually share similarities.... This looks an awful lot like the avanti I have in the garage.

I think the similarities are in the intakes, and the fin. The Avanti wing has a notch in the leading edge and tip flairs, the canopy starts in a higher position on the Dolphin.

Here are some photos of the Avanti, last one is a side by side compairison

Catherine what else is FB bringing out this year? a smaller yak 130 would be nice or just something different from the rest of the mainstream manufacturers.

I see FB published that the airframe weighs 7200g (15.9 Lbs)...wow that seems light for something that is 104" long, I wonder if that is just the bare airframe?

looks great, its nice to see that they didn't put the thick trailing edges on everything so hopefully it will go more like a lightning than a future

If the price is anything like the velox xl I will order one

mario tavarez14 04-23-2014 12:19 PM

anybody know the price for this one

RCISFUN 04-24-2014 03:33 AM

I e-mailed Catherine and asked if they had a price yet, she responded it will be coming soon...

Hi Jay,

The big Hunter is being developed, 2.9m long.

brg,
Catherine

DiscoWings 04-25-2014 09:49 AM

what is the fuse made out of airex?

Looks like FB is improving, carbon laminated ply/balsa, strong and light.

RCISFUN 04-25-2014 10:07 AM

Hopefully I will be able to confirm this next week, stay tuned:cool:

RCISFUN 04-26-2014 05:04 AM

I have received my DHL tracking number from Catherine, I should have the Dolphin shown in the photos in a week or so.
I will be starting a separate build thread of the Dolphin when I receive it. I plan on making a detailed report, so if there are any questions on the construction I will be able to verify. I plan on powering the Dolphin with a Jet Central Rhino, if all goes to plan it will be flying at KY Jets in July.

RCISFUN 04-28-2014 06:06 AM

I have been reading a lot about the Bavarian Demon Cortex gyro and was wondering if this would A/F would be a good candidate?

they all are, they can do different things in different airframes. in a difficult plane they can smooth out bad habits, in a sport or pattern jet they can help make maneuvers smoother

I received the Dolphin yesterday, all I can say is wow, it is big and the components are very light.
The packaging was excellent as there was no shipping damage to any of the components.
I will start a new thread hopefully this weekend as time permits with lots of photos and info.

cassiemitch 05-02-2014 11:57 AM

I look forward to your build tread .
Does the jet have rear doors ?

Yes it does, they are factory installed and the cylinders are very robust!
It also has an installed front door and cylinder.

The LG is also installed, the retract cylinders look like they are up to the task! The main Wheels are 4.3" [109 mm] in diameter

The kit also included a fairly complete hardware installation package: air lines, (2) air valves, air quick disconnects, linkages (Robust), fiberglass control horns, Aluminum servo mounting brackets, Aluminum fuel tank bung fittings, heavy duty fuel clunks and assorted screw, nuts, washer, etc.

My only concern with the fuel tank components is the supplied brass tubing would be good for a 0.60 size glow engine, it is not appropriate for the size turbine that this ship will need, i.e. a 170 class. So I will be drilling the metal tank stoppers to fit 3/16" [5 mm] tubing.

As this is the prototype I will be writing the manual.
There are only a couple of things that will need to be determined, i.e. fuel tank mounting and battery mounting to achieve the proper CG, which also needs to be determined.

I hope to get going this weekend with the build as KY Jets is quickly approaching:eek:

Here is a sneak peek at the packaging

The box dimensions are 19” W x 24” H x 74” L which is actually very compact for the size of the airframe

anyone have any quality issues with there velox xl?

Quick Update, I have had this for 13 days now, the install is at the point where I was able to check the balance today. I had a hunch when I first started to assemble this it would need the batteries all the way up front in the nose, so the first thing I did was design two battery boxes to sit on either side of the nose gear. My hunch proved to be correct and I can say that it balances with the batteries in the battery boxes and I do not believe I will need to add any dead weight, or very little will needed.

I was able to weigh the airframe and it is coming out at just under 35 Lbs with no fuel on board with all equipment.

I have been concentrating on the install and documenting the process with notes and photos so I have not had time for the thread yet.

Here is a photo that was shot today after I did the balance check, all equipment is in the airframe, I just need to do the final placement and tidy up the maze of cables and air lines now that I have the CG check done.
p.s. I am setting the CG at 28% of MAC to start with.
