Turnigy servos in Jets?
 

I have a pal who is using Turnigy servos in his Jets with so far good results, anyone else having good feedback with these servos?

I'm a big fan of HK servos (for my cheap planes) but I wouldn't put one in a turbine powered aircraft if you held a gun to my head.

I use HXT900 servos in my jet :)

They have proven to be a fantastic servo in a whole heap of other applications I have used them in so I put 3 of them into my jet when I built it.

Brake valve
Retract valve
Fuel shut-off valve

They have never missed a beat in 3 years of flying.

I have recently bought a Jetlegend Viperjet and it has Turnigy servos in it. The plane has had 10 flights without a problem. I will check them all over before flying but at first glance only one is not good. It is HK15298B This has a lot of backlash in the gears, this one I have already replaced with a Savox one. There are some videos on Youtube showing some of the more powerful Turnigy servos being tested.

LOL, I got one jet buddy, who all he as are Turnigy servos, (except a few JR8711 in the elvator of his F16)

I have bought a few planes off this guy, and he has been flying turbines longer than anyone at our feild, and he loves his Turnigy servos.

I was building a falcon 120 as he has had 3, with his last with over 300 flights according to his logs and he was useing http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14830

So I built mine useing the same, I figured why not, and so far 30 flight, they are amazing, Very quick and strong, I can tell the diffrance in the air, as I had orginaly built my Falcon useing hitec 645 but I wanted to put them in a war bird, so I swaped them out.

I don't care much about the falcon, but it dose put one in a odd place, as I just picked up a sweet Carf Rooki 2 from him, but it has 4 turnigy servos in the wing that I have done some resurch online about and they dont seem to have the best history. SO I wanted to replace them but I cant find a servo in the 180oz range as fast as these servos in the link above. (Im hopeing to 3d this one with a P120 so I want fast servos to work better with a gyro)

Im stuck, I really dont like Hitec except for 645mg, but I love Savox (or Spectrum 6030 wich is a Savox)

But a Savox servo in this oz rang and speed is going to cost me $75 X4 $300
Or I can get 2 Larger 400oz fast savox for $75 X2 $150 and glue the elevons togeather, (alot of peaple do, and im thinking of it to save weight)
Or get the above Turnigy servos $32 X4 = $128 and keep the install as it already is.

While most say building a trubine is not part of this hobbie one should try to save $$$ in, Its hard to spend more than you need to..

I would be a lot more afraid of this, than swaping turbines (im refering to your concern on the previous turbine swaping thread), dont you think?

My previous post re swapping turbines has nothing really to do with this thread but since you have mentioned and for your benefit it I will reiterate, that personally, I do not like the idea of swapping turbines from one plane to another it is a personal preference and I have at no time said for others not to do it. I do not judge as I do not liked to be judged. On the question of Turnigy servos I did not say that they were good or bad but I know of people who use them in Jets and was just curious of the general views of others,just a question,thats all.

Hi Mark, amongst those being used in Jet use that I am aware of are the following:-
TGY- A55H Slim wing servo in a thin tail application.
ASB-714MG
TGY-DS3509MHG HV
TGY-DS725MG HV
TGY- BLS815MG HV.

I am sure there are others but the above appear to be ok.

John W, can I take it that you will continue to fly the Viper with the remaining servos?

I see no reason to take them out if they work. When I have the covers off I will give you a note of the numbers.

Every time I see these threads I have to laugh a little. I live and breath Turnigy servos, and have for a couple years. The reason I tried them is because I lost a fairly expensive model to a JR servo, and a buddy suggested using the much heralded Turnigy micro servo for a 55mm edf I had. I haven't looked back. I have them in my gassers, cheapo foamies, 90mm EDFs, and I will certainly use them in any jet I buy.

But often I get smirks and frowns from folks who look at my airplanes when I am setting up. A friend, who flies in the XFC, brought his competition airplane to the field to practice last year. He looked at my then new 30cc SBach which had Turnigy digital servos in it and told me I was crazy to use them. He touted his awesome HiTech coreless digital servos and boasted that he would use nothing else but them ever. When he powered up his airplane (after putting it together), one of the wing servos failed. He took it home, replaced it, came back a few days later, and a rudder servo failed- and the second one got stuck. Total loss.

Since switching to Turnigy- literally at least 100 servos- never had a failure. Ever. I know of at least four very expensive airplanes that are no longer with us due to "high end" HiTechs and JRs. In fact, the only servo other than Turnigy that I would use is a Savox because one of my used 55cc 3D airplanes came with them and they have been fantastic.

Rule of thumb for Turnigy: If it works out of the box with no binding, no grinding, no whining, and no smoking, it will work as good or better than any similar servo ten times the cost. My opinion. :)

I dont use Turnigy servos... but I do use BlueBird servos, sold at HK.. in all my jets for the past 3 years and Love the performance and the price:)

OK I just checked on the servos. The ailerons and flaps are HK15298B. (20Kg 0.16secs) They are nice and smooth and will fly with them. The elevator servo is a HS 5585MH.
Now I have seen one of the HK servos that is not perfect I will know what to check for with the others.

I apply this exact theory to all electronics ... cell phones, computers, televisions, servos, transmitters, etc.
I found this to be very true as long as the equipment is taken care of, and not abused. If it doesn't develop a problem within the first month, it will last for 10+ years.
