Need Info on Byron YF16
 

Hello, All.

I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct forum, as this aircraft is a Nitro DF Aircraft, but I thought it would be a good start!

I am the proud owner of a Byron YF16 ducted fan aircraft with a Rossi 61 nitro engine. the OAL is approx 75 inches, with a 48 inch ws. the plane does not have a fuel tank, it looks as if the Tank was in the nose of the plane, and was of an oval shape. it seems to me that if the tank is in the nose, the CG would be way too variable during the flight, as the fuel is used, going from nose heavy to tail heavy, as the flight progresses!

also, there is a thin plastic sheet rolled into a Tube, that is behind the engine, I am guessing that it's a Thrust tube?? what is this made of, and how is it installed, is it zip tied to the rear of the Ducted Fan unit?

Lastly, (for now, at least!), where is the CG located on this model??

If anyone has diagrams, Manuals, Etc for this model, I would love to pick your brain for the proper set up of this model!

Thank you for the quick reply. I Downloaded the Manual from the link you provided, and it's going to be a big help. Unfortunately, there wasn't a diagram that provided an indication as to where the tank(s) should be located. I have located a company that seems to have the rights to reproduce the Byron Kits, I am going to contact them and see if they can help me also!

I had one of these and It was great fun!

The best thing you can do is rip out the ICDF engine, and using the same fan, replace it with an electric motor!! Way more power than the .61, way more reliable, way cleaner, and sounds heaps better!

I'll bet you money you have a Rossi 81 and not a 61. Look at the side of the mount lugs on the engine - you will probably see "81" stamped on it. Thats because when Rossi made the 81 - the used the case from the 61 and simply machined it out.

That Rossi .81 was THE engine to run back in the day.............The only problem was the carb. I never could get the low speed needle to stay put. I finally made an adapter and put an OS.77 carb on one, worked like a champ. I had the first Byron F-16 at Ida Grove with retracts in 1982.
