Wow, its like a little Mammoth!

sailing1 09-22-2014 03:09 PM

Eric, I have a gas start Rhino that I was thinking about upgrading to kero start with the powerbox or maybe even the 40 lb version. Will that path still be available?

Gonzalo38 09-22-2014 03:31 PM

I also have a couple of gas Rhinos. What kind of updates are available for these turbines ? Kerostart ?

jetmon 09-23-2014 11:41 AM

Hello
Unfortunately previous rhinos will not be upgradable, too many changes

Eric,

JF-170 Rhino has an average consumption of 0.52 liter per minute. The new Rhino consumption of 0.7 liter per minute is average as well? Is safe to say that the consumption will be 30% higher?

Best,

Gabriel

FenderBean 09-23-2014 12:25 PM

will the Mammoth have anymore increase with this new design?

jetmon 09-23-2014 12:43 PM

Hello gapellegrini
The fuel consumption on the 200 is about the same (a little less actually) than in the old rhino, the 0.52 is an average in flight, the 0.7 is at full power

Hi Juan,
I am confused. I have two Rhino turbines one is a 170 gas start and one is a 170 kero start. Your USA web site lists a 175 kero start at 40 lbs and now you are announcing a Rhino 200. I understand that the 200 is different than the previous Rhino's, but how is it different than the 175 and how is the 175 different than the 170? I don't want to upgrade to the 200 version, just wanted to know about updating my gas start version to the Kero version. Going to the 175 would be a bonus but not necessary. I actually got a price quote from Eric to do this earlier this year and just wanted confirmation that converting a 170 gas to 170 kero start is no longer an option.
Thanks.

Sailing 1:

Your 170 propane start Rhino can be converted to kero start and as well, to the PowerPack and SP versons. Each has its own separate cost. if done at the same time, you save money on the labor. The 175 Rhino SP produces a solid 40 lbs of thrust. Our all new Rhino 200 is a totally new turbine. Juan engineered this engine through many painstaking hours. Tests after test after test. The response to this latest release at Jet Power was more than encouraging. Now, comes the question; "can your existing Rhino's be converted to the new Rhino SP 200. The answer is no as Juan stated elsewhere in this thread.
Jet Central will continue to offer parts and service for all previous Rhino's with or without the Lifetime Warranty. We will not let any customer down in any way.

Juan will probably answer your posted question as well. Thank you for your loyalty to Jet Central turbines and accessories. . .

Kind regards,
Eric

Thanks Eric,
Thanks for explaining -- I was hoping that the path to upgrade was there and your explanation makes sense to me. Have two new projects in the works for this winter and just need to figure out which Jet Central turbines will go into them. Am thinking the new Rabbit 106 for my new/old Custom Classic Flash build and either another Cheetah or Rhino for the A4. And by the way, your Jet Central smoke pump turned my Comp Arf Viper into a certified SMOKE MONSTER.

I suggest renaming the Rhino 200 the Sabertooth Tiger!;)

Out of curiosity, what is the certification process for a smoke monster?

Jim

sailing1 09-24-2014 12:15 PM

Hey Jim,

Well its a pretty esoteric deal, but basically you line the plane up on the runway, turn on the smoke and hit the gas. If neither you or your spotter can see the jet as it rotates then it is officially a "Smoke Monster". If you reacquire the plane before you hit something you get Bonus Monster Points.

Just FYI, the Green and White Comp Arf Viper at RT66 was mine. Between the Viper and Little Boomer we managed to go through over 5 gallons of smoke the meet.

And we smoked Andy's butt!
