DC and Maryland Area Jet Flying

All,

It looks like my family and I may be moving to the Washington DC/Maryland area. I have looked at a few clubs but don't seem to be able to determine where I might be able to fly my Reaction 54. Does anyone have knowledge of where turbines might be welcomed in that area?

Thanks in advance.

DC nowhere, there's a blanket TFR that covers a lot of the area.

But a trip to the AMA web site Club Search feature will serve you well.

Agree about the AMA club search but I am also looking for input on what clubs "really" welcome turbines;-)

DCRC is one, http://www.dc-rc.org

There's also another, but I don't remember the name of it. I'll try to find it.

The other is Free State Aeromodelers, http://www.flyfreestate.com

I have just been elected the district 4 JPO rep and live in the northern MD area. We have a few clubs that allow turbines planes. Looking near DC is hard but as the guys have stated the DCRC and FreeState clubs are two that do. Also PGRC and SWAP are the nearest clubs to DC that allow and encourage turbine flying. The Pegaus RC club in Hagerstown has a few guys as well. We allow turbines to fly at our field so long as e can pass the DB limit. I have flown my smaller powered planes there several times but prefer rallies.

Dcrc and pgrc have paved runways. It will really depend on where you move to. Pgrc is east of DC and DCRC is nw of the city. I fly at pgrc. There are only a few turbine guys out there. Several of us fly edf a lot. I think it is a good club for anything u want to fly.

There is an *excellent* hobby shop in Chantilly, VA, near Dulles airport. The owner, Kwang, is a big jet guy and has his own grass field south east of the city near Warrenton where they routinely fly jets. Check out the store website: http://www.hobbyhangarva.com/
