You are such a kill Joy! :) I'm even man enough to fly on a buddy cord or wireless setup!

hoser 02-24-2015 11:08 AM

Ali i guess i ll see you at markhan!

Ali 02-24-2015 11:16 AM

Look forward to it.

Hi Ali

I am one of those guys that you mentioned. Have one sitting at home but scared of using it! I wish I was coming to FJ. This is great of you.

Behzad

NICKELUP 02-24-2015 08:52 PM

I agree with Ali too. I was hesitant to use one too until my friend convinced me to use it on my skymaster F-16, and I am glad I listened to him it changed the plane around for better, and made the flying so much more enjoyable. Now I want to use it in all my jets.

Ali 02-25-2015 12:03 AM

Great to hear that it worked out for you. Your post pretty much sums up my experiences of late, where I have set up Gyros for people who were not sure. Or had listened to those that say they are the work of the devil and cheating and so on and so forth. Many of them are now looking at fitting more of them to their models, and a few are reporting that they are enjoying their flying more than ever. Thus my set up offer. Anything I can do to make someones plane better, or them enjoy their flying more is time well spent in my opinion.
Sorry that you cant make it Behzad. Maybe at another meet?
Regards Al

It is a function of speed and control authority. Yes, more asymmetric power increases yaw but more airspeed provides increased rudder authority to compensate for the yaw. It depends on many factors such as current airspeed, altitude available and the particular characteristics of the aircraft involved. If you want to read an excellent article on the subject, go to this issue of JPO's Contrails and scroll down to page 9; http://www.jetpilots.org/contrails/Spring10.pdf

PS: Ali, sorry to hijack your thread. FWIW, I agree with your comments/experience with gyros. See you next week at FL Jets!

Thanks for the link, Craig. Good article. About what I've expected for dealing with the '38 Vmc. I suppose I won't know how much power is TOO much in single engine ops for my 38 until "the inevitable" happens. However, good to see a nice article summing up all the concerns.

BTW, I've been passing along all this '38 Vmc lore from you Jet Guys to our P38 Community. Know you are ALL contributing to Twin Pilots everywhere!

Thanks again,
Lynn

Now if I can just figger' out what motors to put in the Uhu (and don't say Electrics 'cause they NEVER fail..... Uh, huh. Yea sure.)

Not a pretty day as you can see but with Ali's help the gyro was in in about 15 minutes and my plane is tight on space and cable length.. What a difference especiay in a cross wind condition and during approach with some gust youd swear i was flying in a calm day.

thanks Ali!

Ali 03-02-2015 01:14 AM

You are very welcome Hoser.
It has been great conditions for setting up and seeing the benefits of the 3e. ( Blustery at times with cross winds coming in over the freeway and tress making for less then still air over the runway ) I have set up a bunch of different planes so far and so far all have been obviously improved. Feedback from the owners has been really positive and its been very rewarding to see the results.

I d like to throw in my 2 cents on the move (off the fence) to going with the Powerbox iGyro... And if it were not for Ali's generous offer to spend his time and energy on setting up my Viperjet at Markham this past Sunday it would not have happened. Install was straight forward and took only about 15 minutes - Ali then flew the jet on two flights to go through the initial set up- all went flawless. How does it work? Lets just say the jet now does a knife edge all the way down the runway with nothing more than putting it into a half roll... and stays there unassisted. Wind gusts no longer push the 2 meter jet around... so yes, as Ali says... it makes the experience just that much moire enjoyable. THANKS Ali for your generous assist! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2078275

That is exactly what I'm afraid of and now that I foolishly decided I will need to get 1 to try; the other big problem begins, 3e gyro or cortex demon?

also... I know this will fluffl feathers, but what are the ods Hobbyking comes out with a $35.00 Knock off... they did this with the Heli Gyro Mini Fubar.

If you stick a $35 knock off gyro on the primary controls of your $8-30,000 jet then that's up to you................

Can someone tell me how important the specs of the servos are using a gyro like this one? I use cheaper servos such as futaba s3051 http://www.servodatabase.com/servo/futaba/s3051
on the ailerons and rudder. Usually go 400+ oz-in on the tails such a hitech 7954sh.

Will I benefit from a gyro using these types of servos? Sorry I am used to a Heli where the servos do matter a lot, but I know a jet may be different.

gunradd 03-20-2015 09:19 AM

Yes you will still benefit from a gyro.

Ali 03-20-2015 09:33 AM

There is no problem using a mixture of servos. I have set this gyro up using a multitude of different servos. From the very best, to much lesser units and not seen any issue. We are not using the gains to the extreme as a heli gyro would so I don't see any great reason for it to be essential to have super fast servos as in the helis. Of course, as with anything. The better the servo the better your control.

Ok cool , I figured so but wanted to make sure. Really looking forward to making cross wind landings easier. I can get 9 out of 10 but that 10th one I end up fixing something, usually a flex plate.

Anybody know if the Demon USB interface will work with the I Gyro e3? The connections are the same but not sure about the internals.

hoser 03-20-2015 01:19 PM

that's a good question, i noticed my cortex comes with the cable but with the 3e it's optional. even thought its set up perfectly it would be good to know.. just in case i want to tweak later.

gunradd 03-20-2015 02:00 PM

I have a USB interface for the I gyro 3E I bought that I no longer need. I paid 35 for it and used it once. If anyone wants it for $25 plus shipping let me know.

RSO 03-20-2015 03:38 PM

Gunradd, I'll take it, (the I-gyro 3E USB interface). Sending PM now.

Indeed excellent to read and learn from the boffins! Thank you guys.
Now the question. I am busy with my first Het (Sebart Avanti with TV) and based on all the advise in this stream I ordered from HK a PowerBox "'iGyro™ SRS'' Is this good at all? I am not sure if the 3E reference is the same as what I have ordered?
I am planning to use it with 2 Futaba Rx-es and P/Box Competition SRS.

vankie 08-10-2015 11:56 PM

With a bit of google found that the 3E is just the smaller version of the item I bought...but will wait for delivery and then come back with questions! I think it would be a good idea to first install it on something small like Trojan T28 foamie!
