Xicoy Electronic C.G. Balancer
6 Attachment(s)
Xicoy electronics just released the electronic CG balancer. Its perfect for large scale jets and airplanes. It has a slot for a micro SD so you can store the model information and also allows for future upgrades.
The video and the instructions are in its first draft, but I was told that a full tutorial video is forth coming. You can get one of these from Xicoy electronics (http://www.xicoy.com/catalog/) directly or locally (US) from Ultimate Jets (http://www.ultimate-jets.net) or Dreamworksrc (http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/) http://youtu.be/tfXTyz8w7JY |

A Small portion of our initial stock order has just arrived. Should have them up on the website shortly. Gaspar has done an exceptional job with this device, by far the easiest and most accurate model CG device on the market, hands down!
Threw together a display stand for the system last night, sensitive enough to balance even at this scale! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GH0_0Qki-1s&feature=youtu.be This will be a very popular item! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2076707 |
How ???? Gear can be anywere
|
Measurements; distance Main to Nose, Mains to CG and Mains to weight placement point are input into the Digital CG system. The device then calculates the current CG and weight required to correct.

Todd,
I'm interested in one of these (tired of hanging planes from the garage door rail). What is the expected price? Jim |

Our first batch of 8 was 100% sold out on pre-order. Next batch mid March. We are taking orders on call for this product at this time. |
I want one :-)

Will this handle conventional gear as well?

It should if you enter the distance to the tail wheel instead nose wheel. I assume you would also need to elevate the tail wheel so that airplane sits level.

Looks cool. and a lot easier than hanging big planes from the ceiling.
Is there an upgrade coming that will also check for lateral balance? |
Got one coming....looking at my new FB Dolphin's size this this will be great to balance it with.

Both trike and tail-dragger configurations are available in the aircraft data setup menu. Weight placed on each load-cell is shown in the weight display window, lateral balance can be achieved by matching weight at mains. I will suggest a lateral window in the next firmware.

25kg a load cell, but Gaspar said he has some 50kg load cell's on order as well. I got to have a play with his prototype at the factory a few weeks ago when I was there. It sure is pretty cool gadget. We use exactly the same process to do the weight and balance on 110 ton aircraft, slightly larger load cells though ;) Thanks dave |
I have brought the CG machine at the field to test fly a new flying target.
That thing is incredible. We were able to nail the CG of this plane within 3 flights and have it precisely consigned in the operations manual. The device is setup on the ground within seconds, on the side of the model. You switch the unit ON and enter the model parameters if not done before at the workshop. You then put the model on the scales. Then enter the CG menu and adjust the weights. Done! Being able to precisely note the CG position within seconds at the field is an extraordinary safety feature. I strongly recommend to take this device with you at the field on the maiden and subsequent flights. In fact this machine is now the most important part of my field box. I consider this as one of the most important safety related hobby product ever developed! BTW the user manual is available on the download tab of our product page: http://www.ultimate-jets.net/collect...tal-cg-machine |
I should have mine soon can't wait to have a play with it.

My Xicoy CG balancer that I had pre ordered some time ago, way back when it was first announced has now arrived over the weekend, many thanks to Jeff at ZEDJETS for the very quick turnaround once stock was available. I must say I'm very pleased with the quality of the balancer, the three scales are nicely machined with a robust feel to them and the touch screen display is very clear and is easy to use. It took all of five minuets to unpack and have it programed by "intuition alone" I really must down load the manual just to see if I guessed it right!.
I used my Jetlegend Alpha Jet as my first test subject, this is defiantly a model you cant balance using your finger tips and a good example of an airframe for which this device was conceived. In use I found by drawing a line across the bench under where the main wheels sit on the sensor units gives a good clear reference point, then by using a half sheet of ply as a set square I could project down from the wing seat to the bench the CG position. This then gave me all the information that's required to program and allow the balancer to do its calculations, it all worked a treat, well done on a fantastic product to our good friend and turbine guru "Gaspar" http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2081782http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2081783http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2081784 For ref the stats for my JL Alpha Jet are, Main wheels to Nose wheel = 933mm, CG = 105mm in front of the main wheels. |
Oli, any idea on shipping date for those of us who pre-ordered?

I got a chance to play with one of these at the weekend and it's a great bit of kit. However, unless I've missed something, a minor tweak to the displayed information would make it even better, in my opinion.
The system must calculate the current c.g. (and it does show you graphically with an arrow) but it doesn't give you a figure. I think it would be nice if, as well as telling you the amount of weight to add and remove to obtain the entered c.g. position, it actually told you where the current c.g. was in relation to that position (e.g. 10mm forward of datum). |

So I guess having now had to re-order from another source; means that I will NEVER deal with Ultimate Jets again. Hope your experience ends better than mine. Cheers, Jan |
