now would you guys consider a 18lb turbine as small or medium?

18 lbs is a "small(er)" turbine. 30 lbs is "mid-sized" and 40+ lbs is a "big" turbine. For me, right now, planes for a "mid-sized" turbine are as big as I can go...

No doubt medium, there are a number of planes a VT 80 can push fast

Small like in 90mm sized... avanti Sebart... Sebart L-39 to Black Horse 90mm L-39, Top Guns Mig15 or Fly Fly F-100
