I have an IQ Hammer 180+. Great running turbine and absolutely no problems.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2122832

I'm running the 200 in my Futura. Awesome power, very light, very simple to use and I really like the calibration every time it runs.
Ive been doing some oil testing with them and they have been great to work with. |
Hi Matt,
How do you compare Behotec with Hammer Engines? They are all metal even starter motor in a solid case in stead of plastic. Any flame out issues with IQ Hammer engines like JetCat 180 RX love to sleep at any time of the the flight without any reasons. Since you are flying Futura 2.5m, do you think 180 size is sufficient and 200 is too much? Thanks in advance for the help because my next project is 2.5 Futura and I am looking for a reliable turbine which is sufficient to pull it through aerobatics with ease without making it a speed devil. Our field is quite short and there are no margins for dead sticks ever. |

I've been flying my 2.5m Futura with a Hammer 180+ for a couple of years now with no problems or flameouts. My Futura weighs 37lbs dry and I have found the 40lb of thrust of the 180+ (same as a JetCat 180 RX) to be more than adequate. Nearly unlimited vertical performance. I don not have any experience with the Behotec so I can't comment on any comparison. The Futura can fly extremely slow and it's capable of very short takeoff and landings. Although I usually fly off a 1000' paved runway I have also flown it off a 300' grass strip without any problems. Unless you want to get a thrust vector pipe and hover or happen to have a larger thrust turbine in hand, I personally don't think you need the extra thrust of a 200 size. Just my opinion. Hi Craig,
Great looking bird. And a very nice shade of red chosen for Audi Scheme. Thanks for the advise so IQ are reliable engines and 180+ looks more than enough. |
Craig,
For the build, may you post more pictures of interior for reference? Thanks |

After those pictures were taken, I have since added a Cortex gyro and converted to electric landing gear (which I really like). The Futura has a slight tendency to oscillate in yaw when it's a little windy/bumpy. The Cortex completely eliminates that and make the plane fly smoother overall.

Had my 170+ in a F18 YA Twin now it is in a custom built plane, both are over 40 lbs. Very impressed with the Hammer and Aeroscale was great to work with when I damaged an ecu, my fault. Have a Jet Central Rhino, Jet Cat P80, Kingtech 140 and PST J1330R, and would compare the Hammer favorably to all of them. If it really goes 50 hours between service I will be completely sold, only have 12 hours on it so far. My only issue is that according to the warranty the only oil you can run is Aeroshell 500-560 which I refuse to run due to health issues with the oil. Personally I use KT oil and diesel in all my turbines, so far so good. IQ Hammer responded to an email about oil and stated that they have people using Mobile DTE light with out problems but did not say it was covered under warranty. My next turbine purchase will most likely be another Hammer. Anyhow that is my two cents.
