Inhibition of front steering

Anyone could help with instructions on how to inhibit the front gear
steering when gear is up????? And make it functional with gear down.

Thanks;

You might want to mention what TX you use.

Nose gear on Separate channel. Make a mix Rud to Nose Gear channel. Make that mix enabled when the gear switch is down.

siclick33 04-06-2016 10:13 AM

Put the rudder and nose steering servos on separate channels.

Use a programmable mix with the rudder channel as master and nose steering channel as slave.

Use the gear switch to activate the mix. With the gear down the mix is active; with the gear up the mix is inhibited.

Simple :D

One little word of caution. On my SM F-5 I had the steering mix off with gear up. On my last flight I had a slight air leak. The gear came down with the gear fail safe.

You can probably guess what I forgot to do. Yes! put the gear switch down (gear was already down). Obviously I couldn't steer after landing and ripped the gear out while off roading.

Just a little story to help with a little thing you need to remember. :)

if you use futaba and use conditions then on condition 2(gearup) just go to the function feature and select null for the channel your using on the nose steering.

Maybe a pull pull linkage that goes slack when the gear retracts? D.H.

On futaba radio use dual rates on steering servo, activated by the retracts switch, stay on(0%rate) when nose landing gear is retracted.

Thanks for reminding me to add a logical switch in my Jeti to activate steering AND brakes in case of a gear failsafe. :p

What radio,,on spektrum its simple

If using a Jeti radio, add an MBAR sensor and you can also add another logic switch to (re) enable nose gear steering in the event of a loss of air (which should have triggered a gear down by some other device or programming)

Sorry, I forgot. It's Spektrum 18.

Yes, that's what I said, a gear fail safe would be caused by lack of air
And don't forget brakes...

You are leaving allot out....

Do you have the steering assigned to a channel or is it just a mix in your P mixes? Many different ways to do it.

raron455 04-07-2016 11:14 AM

I fly with DX-18 ,, the easiest way to do it is to assign the servo for the steering to its own channel and then go into your mixing and mix that Servo with the rudder, rudder being the master, assign that mix to the gear switch, highlight the block for the gear down position, that way the steering will only work when the gear is down when you retract the gear the steering servo will not be mixed in so it will not move. I also assign the trim for the nose wheel servo to one of my right tab, that way I can trim the nose wheel individual of the rudder. If you are still confused or have questions feel free to p.m. me or email me [email protected],, and I will walk you through the setup step by step this is the setup I use on all of my Jets and it works perfect.

Hi friends:
that functuon is included in Electron Retracts !!
when you close the gears the front rudder servo is blocked and brake system too.
if you no have Electron .... a simple mix in your radio, very easy.

I dont know what radio you are using but you can turn the steering off in the mix setup usually with a "and/ or" switch . I know how with the JR 12x or 28x but not sure with Spectrum or Futuba

I usually put the nose wheel in Aux3. In the channel assignment section of the System menu I assign AUX3 to the Ltrimmer. This way you can trim the nose wheel without effecting the rudder.
Then I mix RUD to Aux3 with the gear switch (A) set to turn on the mix when the gear is down.

I just got 28x if you please explain rudder and nose steering setup. Thanks T.

Piece of cake
Go to channel setting app
Page over
Assign steering servo to an aux channel
Assign to a trim switch. ( I use T5)
Just over the throttle trim
Now you can adjust steering without effecting rudder

Go to program mixing app
Mix to rudder to aux channel use the gear switch (C) to enable/disable mix
Set up percentage of mix on position1, leave position "0" at 0 %
You are done.

Thank you Shepp.

All this mixing stuff sounds like an over-the-top solution....like HMJETS said - simple with Futaba using a seperate channel for the nose steering. If you can do it the same way on your Spectrum, then just go that way....using the Dual rate setup and simply controlling what you want with your retract switch.

......just remember to take note of Steve's little lesson (which ever method you adopt) when you suffer a gear fail safe in the air.....if you don't switch the retracts switch, you will not have steering on the ground....

Cheers,

Jan

Indeed, easiest way to do it.
