Average cost on greyhound?
I may need to ship a 2.5m viper to Arizona from Tennessee. I was wondering an average cost for somethings like this, I want know exact freight size till a crate is built.
Is there a weight limit? Thanks |
What are your package weight and size restrictions?
The maximum weight per package is 100 pounds. The maximum dimensions that we can accommodate are 30" H x 47" W x 82" L. This was pulled from: http://www.shipgreyhound.com/e/Pages/faq.aspx#Ship_Q14 Not sure if you seen this yet but this might help with the packing. |

Cheaper than I thought weight would be around50-60 pounds probably close to max length.

I have used Greyhound a couple of times and it worked out OK, BUT: two things you should be aware of :
1. Their max insurance limit is $300 bucks 2.They have no way of telling you where the package is at any given time, ie, they can tell you when it left the bus station, but for a couple of weeks after on my last shipment, they were not able to tell me where it was. It finally arrived at destination, but scared the beejesus out of me, as I knew I was only covered for 300 bucks if it got lost. I'm not sure I would use them again, for the above reasons. Just my 2 cents- Mike O |
Mike beat me to it. Insurance and tracking. Apparently the boxes can sit and stations on route for a long time and aren't traceable

1000 if you do the shipping label online iirc

I've always been able to get $1000 insurance. In fact you can get more. You need to request authorization from head office. I've insured as high as $10,000. They do require proof of value and it's bloody expensive but they will do it.

I've shipped two planes from WA state - one to California, the other to Florida. As others said in both cases the tracking was an issue but both got there. They can track but sometimes it takes a bit of digging. Both shipments were under 150 but do be aware of the length and weight limits. They will not go over even a little bit.

Just paid $80 for this 100lb crate, with a 84" WS single piece wing P-47. They lost ot for a week which got me worrying ****less....but in the end Ive always had a positive experience.

This viper is 90 in long so I'm already over the max length unless I took the nose off and it would probably require two crates since the wings are pretty large. Well cost isn't bad I just need to see if the owner wants to disassemble it some.

Don't take a chance with the bus and something that is valuable. If damaged you will pay hell in any attempt to make a claim. It will always be your fault because it was not packaged correctly and the package not marked correctly or enough. Put it on Forward Air, pay a little extra, then know it will be safe, delivered promptly, and in one piece. Just say'n.......

your box or crate goes on a "space available" priority. so if the bus has a full load of passengers and luggage your crate will wait for the next bus. So transit times could be a week or a month.
|
I think we have another alternative, I would have had to build two crates due to the size but it looks like I will not need to ship it thanks to a friend!
