Skymaster 2M Advice ?

i'm getting ready to order some elevator servos and i want some advice on elevator servos. i'm thinking about getting some jr 9411's for the elevators . i want to run them at 6.0 volts . the torque rating is 92 oz. at 7.2 volts . i was looking at 8411's but they weigh 1 oz. more per servo which means that it's an extra 3 oz. if i count the rudder in the tail. so... what's your thoughts on 9411's ? WB_1 BTW , i'm using a jetcat p140 turned down .

WB1:
i used Spectrum A5060 in the elevators on mine. They fit in with not to much effort. Used an 8411 on e rudder cause I had one laying around. I have a Merlin 140 in mine and have 44 flights on it with no problems with that servo combination.

thanks J . i'm not really a spektrum guy. i do have a couple of servos but THINK JR's are a bit better though the speks may be perfectly fine.

have you run your viperjet flat out ,full throttle yet?

jkeze 11-24-2016 07:50 AM

I usually do the wide open throttle on the verticals as it is nearly unlimited. I have run it flat out on the level and of course it is fast, but you have to remember there is a fine line and if you cross it bad things will happen. As my flying buddy says you have to be a participate not an observer on the left stick. I would not turn it down as I tried it for a few flight once and the plane did not come off the ground as easily. I had it turn down to 90% RPM's
Asking for opinions on servos and turbine on the forums here you will get all kinds of answers. Sometimes the more choices make a decision more difficult

I'm generally NOT a full throttle Freddy i was fishing for opinions/thoughts on the robustness of the airframe . i really don't like going outside the manufactures recommendations but for the same weight and more power i opted for a good deal on a NIB 140 RX over a good used p-80se or similar . that being said i was concerned about servo setup and durability of the airframe at higher power and faster airspeeds . on a side note .. you are the second person that suggested i don't turn it down as grass and take off performance would suffer greatly. Are you running the stock pipe with your 140? thanks for the input , WB_1

jkeze 11-24-2016 08:51 AM

I run the stock pipe so far with no problems. You may have to tinker with the acceleration parameters as on hot days mine would not go above 50% power. I originally had an old Jetcat 120 in it and it was even worse. On skymadter's website they do show customer pics of the plane with 140's in them do it tells me they are endorsing that power. On a side note I brlieve you are the man I sold a gray ziroli zero to about 10 years back

megafly 11-24-2016 09:10 AM

I Have one with A5060 on the elevators as well, K100 for power, the plane is awesome!

lol wan't me . i don't fly axis . i only ever owned one axis fighter and that was a mister 109
good new on the pipe and i'll look into those servos WB_1

emart 11-24-2016 09:39 AM

I used the JR DS 3421's but I think they are discontinued , also have a jetcat P100 that will soon be replaced with a kingtech 120 for better grass operations

you guys running high voltage? or just 6.0 ?

emart 11-24-2016 09:48 AM

I use 2 cell LIFE packs--- 6.6 volts

warbird_1 11-24-2016 09:55 AM

guys, keep in mind we have a beautifully flying site at the perry/warsaw,ny airport. we have a low key event every year ans all is welcome. we have a lot of RV room . date for 2017 is not set yet but you can look us up on Facebook . https://www.facebook.com/groups/1145124272214127/ we are a small club we a huge flying area lol keep in mind that we coexist with a sky diving club and they are not an issue . perry,ny is located south of rochester by abut 35 miles 10 miles off i-390

i was strongly considering 2 cell lipo

emart 11-24-2016 10:16 AM

you want to keep as much weight out of the rear of the plane , so you wont neeed any nose weight .

jkeze 11-24-2016 10:38 AM

Agree with emart. Push all the heaviest stuff as far forward as you can. Only needed a few ounces of weight in nose of mine. 2 cell LiFe batteries work just fine

yea , that's one reason against the 8411's as they weigh 1 oz. more than most of the other servos i have looked at so 3 oz. " three servos"
that far back can be a real disadvantage. i'm not even putting a cockpit in just a platform and a bust . i'm trying to keep the weight way down

megafly 11-24-2016 11:00 AM

Me too 6.6 life, my other servos are not HV, I'm using 8411's and Savox 1256.

MEGA , i looked at the savox's but they looked like they were geared more towards r/c cars and trucks given the description on their website

megafly 11-24-2016 11:50 AM

They have servos for cars and for planes, but I think the only difference is the water seals.

SC and SA versions.

well i opted to go with and ordered the JR xbus NX3421's and a NX8935 on the rudder . All three are xbus and i'll be able to use the powered xbus cable to insure no voltage drop seeing's how they are over 4' from the receiver. i'll use 4811HV 's on the ailerons and i'd like to find two analog HV s for the flaps .The NX3421's pack 91 oz. at 7.4 . that's a big difference compared to 66 oz. servo with plastic gears they said to use at first. i thought the 8411's were way overkill as far as torque not to mention they were a lot of work squeezing them in the stabs . Anyone running xbus? i have combed the net for two days looking for setup info on the servo load alarm system in the xbus menu . WB_1[h=1][/h]

Just read in on this thread. In reference to your full throttle/high speed stuff, keep in mind that it does tell you in the instruction manual not to exceed 180mph.. I'm not a speed nut either, I have a Cheetah Sp in mine ( 32lbs ) and I do not ever go wide open except on some vertical stuff for a short burst.. Awesome airplane and it's slick too. Speed will go up fast if you don't watch it. All that being said, I have seen some guy's fly the crap out of them and I have never seen one fail, but that's not for me... :)

Have fun !!

cool. i was going to turn down the p-140 i have but was advised not to . this plane will teach me more discipline with the throttle. i had a baby boomer with a p-80SE and always had a hard time resisting those full throttle low passes and outta sight climbs. the thing that still has me concerned is the elevator servo setup. i wished they could have done something different that would have been better rather than rely on mini servos. i chose JR's because i feel they give me the most confidence. there's a alarm system in the xbus menu that gives you the ability to set alarms if you push the servos to hard an alarm will warn you. i'm working on figuring that out. also i did see that 180 warning and i'm putting an airspeed sensor in the viper. that to has an alarm that will warn you as well as the altitude sensor i have as well

sonicboom 11-28-2016 05:06 PM

I have Hyperion servo's DS16 in mine on the elevator with over 120 flights now with no issues. light and strong digitals

http://www.aircraft-world.com/en/p1005802-hp-ds16

rcmigpilot 11-29-2016 04:43 AM

I have regular 3421 digitals on the elevators on mine with a P120SX and everything is fine, the Sbus versions should be even better. On mine the rudder had to be set about 1/4" from the fin in order to get enough throw which caused quite a bit of movement at the hinges so I added 1/4 aircraft ply spacers around the hinges, they're now rock solid.
