Bvm pnp F 16 controls

Hey guys I was just installing my stabs on my 1/5 scale pnp f16..
There is just a tiny bit of play or slop in the ball link on servo and the black plastic socket in stab...
I think as it is will be ok but I am worried that if it gets any worse it could flutter..

Has anybody had issues with any wear between ball link and control surface causing flutter???

Has anyone come up with a way to reduce this slop?

I think the 1/6 scale f16 is the same... I hope I am worried about nothing but I hate any slop on large control surfaces. Any advice or info would be great.

Thanks
Bill

Bill I just checked mine and didn't notice any. I did have one of the plastic inserts work loose on the 5th flight. Re-glued it and it is fine also check the other one. It is good. I know of one other one that found the Ball heads on the servo arm backing off and loose. I check mine every time in preflight.

It's a keeper in the air. best of luck with yours.

Jeff
Thanks for checking yours.. I just drilled and filled around those plastic inserts, as shown in manual.
The rudder one has no play and is very tight... But my left stab has a small amount of play, not sure how to tighten it up or if to worry about it...
Do the metal balls just thread into the servo horn?? Mine were not loose but I didn't really check them..

What engine is in yours??

Thanks
Bill

I think it is a nut on the other side of the arm for the ball. like I said it was another one that it was found loose on. Mine are tight.

I am using the K210g in mine.

I have about 5 flights on it so far before winter set in. So far it is enough. I feel like if I add it will need more. I know of 2 others flying on the 210 and they seem to be good also. You can see a you tube on the BVM Jet page of the General Dynamics one at KY jets. It has a gen 1 210g in it. I have had 3 of the 210g and it seems that any of the newer are producing more power.

Thanks Jeff

Sorry Bill I said the one KY jets was the GD Scheme. It was Scott Harris with the T-bird scheme that was built and flown there with the 210g. Andy Andrews did purchase the GD Scheme there from BVM that was the prototype that Dustin placed at Top Gun with. He is flying it with the 210g also, You can see some YouTube video of it at Fall Jets in Ohio.

I just purchased the BVM F16 1.5,, ordered a Jet Central Mammoth SE with 52 lbs of thrust for it and will be using Jeti . I'm curious in any issues and how you set yours up..

I am using the DX-18 the best part that BVM does is give templates to set up throws. They are spot on perfect. Dustin help a lot on that. It doesn't need or like a lot of flap. You will be surprised how little is used. It lands really nice and stable. 52lbs will push it around very good. I keep mine very light. No smoke used yet. 46lbs balanced weight. Mine is about .5lb nose heavy and it flies great.

One tip is to make sure the nose strut stay fully extended with full take off fuel. It will get off the ground a lot easier. I used a small piece of Tygon inside the strut to shim the factory spring. The later models may have a different spring.

You will love it. Keeps up on your progress. What scheme did you go with?

I am using Dx 18 with a kingtech 210...My is in the thunderbirds scheme so I am wanting to fly it with smoke so I hope the king tech 210 will be enough...

The glitching problems I was talking about were due to using the new Spektrum rx which has now been recalled.....

I wish i could tell you about how it flys but I am waiting until June for the new rx's to come out....

As Jeff said keep us updated...

Congrats on the purchase!!

Bill

the manual will have the channel set up for the dx-18 in it. If you want to use the ar12120 with channel expander like I have on all my jets you could get flying quicker. In fact you can fly it with just 12 channels. No smoke and no air brakes and still have the canopy opening.

bonanzadrv 03-30-2017 09:01 AM

Jeff,
I would love to fly with a 12120 and x plus..... But the 12120 rx are no longer available and I can't find one anywhere....

jws_aces 03-30-2017 09:23 AM

Wow i didn't realize that they have dried up. I hope Spektrum gets the new ones fixed soon.

lavi rider 03-30-2017 11:05 AM

We have four of these 1/5's here . One has a P-200RX while al the others have P-300's .
both types fly great and really don't need that much power , however when all the ordinance is hooked on the one with the P-200 is flown most of the time at WOT and it does seem to lack some juice on vertical high energy like maneuvers where the one equipped with the P-300 flys much more scale like its full size brother...

lavi rider 03-30-2017 11:07 AM

If I would to choose a turbine for mine today I would go with a P-300 ..

jws_aces 03-30-2017 11:12 AM

Yes I want to fly mine with the large drop tanks. I figure it will need a bigger turbine than my 210g. I was kinda of waiting on the 260g for that reason.
Good info Thanks Lavi

lavi rider 03-30-2017 12:03 PM

It will fly quite well with the droptanks on the 210 ... you will notice the lack of power if you all the missiles too .
