Sukhoi SU-37 "Terminator"

ok ..and the story starts like this..
Farnborough AirShow 1996

...the French Rafale is the ultimate fighter as the canards demonstrate one more time the superior manoeuvrability against the other fighters.
The Rafale finishes a very tight display and lands with the sound of applause from the thousands of the spectators watching .

But press and spectators have gathered to Farnborough to see the answer to the Rafale.
TV and news papers around the world where talking about the new Fighter from British Aerospace (BAE).A delta design also with canards.

The Eurofighter.
The time comes and the Eurofighter takes off .A nice display but not even close to the Rafale .
Maybe because at the time of the AirShow was equipped with weaker power-plants.....

But no one was expecting the next display.
A fighter that left speechless everybody and the experienced onces to have lost the difference between extreme manoeuvrability and dangerous stall.
The new Sukhoi SU-37 .

With the help of the two vector thrust nozzles ,and pilot
Yevgeni Frolov (Sukhoi Bureau Test Pilot)
the SU-37 takes off and performs a classic SU-27 manoeuvre, a... "cobra" ,
but ...with control! By lifting nose, rotating 180 degrees, lowering and start flying the opposite direction!

And more manoeuvres that had no name.
Like the flat spin that the aircraft was changing rotating direction and/or stopping altitude loss...on command.
Or the very tight snap with controlled exit.

The SU-37 lands and everybody start breathing again.

And talking! Like the pilot of the Eurofighter saying that its only good for airshows.
Not for combat, because with this manoeuvres you are just a seating duck.

Of coarse the experts explained how vector trust control is an advantage in a modern dog fight:

Its known that the changing rate of the flying direction of an aircraft(where the nose is looking = where the weapons are aiming) ,is equal to the G that the pilot is willing to take.
The harder you will pull, the faster you will turn.

With vector thrust the pilot can change the flight direction=weapon direction faster,
with out stressing with G the aircraft or himself.

Sukhoi even offer a challenge to prove it.
But no one stood up.....maybe it was tea time:cool:

I still put my money on a decently equipped F-16. But granted, Russia makes the best airshow platforms!

And just to be clear :
this historical report is the start of the presentation of my SU-37
and not some kind of warlords debate .
This are historical facts so maybe we should stay cool ?
..dont want my SU-37 to be the cause for the star of ww3 LMAO

With the new Aim X you can shoot off boresight and you don't need to point the nose. You can fire at a plane behind you no need to turn....... Now put that on an F22 or F35 combined with stealth and that Russian plane is just a target drone good at airshows.

Unless they mention anything about AimX in Farnborough AirShow 1996 try read again my post #6.

Moving on ..another video :)

Yes back in 1996 this was fantastic and a real advantage. In today's world its target practice. Very good article though.

This thread is not about comparing with todays world . And i didnt asked you.

But if this will make you sleep better tonight YES if you ride your "aimx" thru a space/time warm-hole back to '96 ,you kill everybody.
And if you travel further back imaging what you can do to dinosaurs!
Unless the Sukhoi from the year 3048 travels back and shoots you down!!!!.
Infrond of a cave man wondering whats wrong with you all .

Anyone who likes to go into a weapons debate you can go to ihavethebigestgun dot com and knock your self out posting.
For the rest of the gang i explain in my post #6 what is this thread about.

These are not facts, just opinions. Perhaps just post pictures of your Su-37 and skip the Grand Entrance.....since I can already tell is not gonna go well. LOL

FalconWings 01-10-2017 07:44 AM

Let's hope we don't meet face to face :D

Hello Anton! That is great news! 1/6 will be huge! I wanted smaller because of transportation problem and i got the Aviation Design a few years ago.
The biger they are the better they fly tho.We wait your video !

Mildly entertaining so far.

Who makes F-35?! Maybe you mean F-22?

rgburrill 01-10-2017 10:47 AM

In a dogfight an SU-37 would beat the crap out of an F-35 but would get it's butt wiped by an F-22. He had to mean F-35.

rgburrill 01-10-2017 10:48 AM

Anyone know why the US killed the F-22? Greatest air superiority fighter ever.

Short sighted politicians. At the time it had nothing that opposed it but now Russia and China have stealth. They are looking at restarting the production line but its going to be to expensive. I have several friends that built them and they all say the same thing. All the equipment was saved and stored just encase.

Also the F35 would eat the SU37 since it can fire AIM X from any direction and does not need to point it nose to shoot. So while the SU37 does its thrust vectoring turn and bleeds off all its speed the missile is already on its way easy pray. And thats if the F35 made about a billion crappy decisions and got within visual range in the first place. The SU37 in a real battle would not even know the F35 was in the area until it was to late.

When the F22 first came out it took on 5 F15E eagles at once and downed them all in a mock combat fight and the F15s never even saw the F22 much less got a shot off.

I think you got it the other way around. The F-35 would beat the SU-37 and not the F-22 that is less manoeuvrable as stated in the video..anyway

So the first problem was the gear.
Year 2009 and we are intouch with John at matrix to get the set right.
