skymaster Viperjet 2M elevator horn question

2 Attachment(s)
i'm building a viperjet 2M ... i was working on putting the elevator horns in and i got concerned by what there was to work with. when i drilled the slot for the horn i made sure i hit the balsa spar on the leading edge of the elevator surface .but after i got my slot done i realized there was nothing on the backside of the spar. so basically i'm relying on a 1/8-3/16 balsa spar to anchor the horn to. so what i did was i have some west 610 and i took a syringe and injected a fair amount of epoxy it the slot on the backside of the spar and the front portion of the horn was even with the front of the spar i was wondering if anyone else had this happen. there should have been at least some kind of block back there to help anchor the horn to .

Unfortunately there is not always wood under the skin when you open it up... I don't understand why they can't put a few more inches of wood in there to make sure you hit it... They could add another 2 1/2 cents to price of the kit, and I would even pay a nickle !!! Ridiculous !! All manufactures seem to have this fobia about that.. It's hit or miss... literally !! All that hell raising being said, I just pack it with Hysol, put the arm in and position it whre gravity is on your side to cure.....

Good luck !!,

Dan

i'm sure i'm not alone but i haven't heard of any problems with the horns pulling out or of any crashes of that so i think it should ok though . i pulled and worked them and they felt solid so i'll keep an eye on them . funny thing when installing the flap and elevator horns there was wood behind the ali. and flap surface spars. thought it was just far enough back that i did add a block to the front of the spar for support at least on the aileron .
