WT & Balance? Smoke sys?

Just checking my idea of common sense. When doing balance using the gear on scales, use the center of the axle as the distance locator. Even if trailing link?

My smoke tank will be about 4 inches above the center line of the turbine. Will the pump normally stop siphon effect which may try to drip smoke oil even when pump off?

Thank you

In case anyone else looks.
FAA-H-8083-1 weight and balance, down load free, shows a good diagram on page 3-6. It is the center of the axle regardless of any angle of the LG. I was supposed to know this since i r an AnP, just been a while.

Sullivan makes an anti siphon valve. Have one ordered.

Now looking for measurements to install a super smoke probe. Also watch out curved tip goes to rear of plane Dreamworks has a good diagram on orientation but no dimensions on where to position tip in exhaust.

Cheers
Charles

Ummm, what?

My first question was whether to use the center of the axle for distance in a balance calculation when using scales.
I was concerned that especially with the smoke tank higher than the smoke probe it would siphon oil even with the pump off. I am going to use a Sullivan anti siphon valve in the smoke line.

I would have mounted with the tip which, looks somewhat like a J, toward the turbine but now understand the hook part should point away from the turbine.

I still need some advice on where to mount the smoke probe tip relative to the turbine exhaust cone, how far from the cone toward the back of the airplane and how far the tip should be into or above the cone diameter ie should it be in the thrust column itself or just outside.

Thanks

Charles,

Correct, the "hook" part of the injector is oriented away from the turbine exhaust. Seems backwards but that's how it's designed.

Regarding the injector placement, it's not critical. There are no special "rules of thumb" like the distance from the turbine exhaust cone to the start of the tail pipe. In general, you want it closer to the exhaust cone where it's hottest. 1" or 2" inches behind is probably fine. Position it just off center so the spray is into the center of the exhaust. Again, precise positioning doesn't seem to be critical in my experience.

Here's a picture of the smoke nozzles on my old KingCat. They worked just fine.

And I've never experienced any kind of significant "siphoning" from a smoke tube

Rav, Craig,
I think this will get me going.
Thank you
Craig will you be at Super Jet South this year?
Scrambling to get this Aurora ready for MS afterburner.

Charles,
I'll be at both MS AB and SJ South. Look me up!
