Smoke injectors one or two???

Hi
I want to set up a smoke system in a T-33. I have a Powerbox smoke pump that I will be using should I go with one stainless steel injector or should I go with two. I know two is more but I see a lot of guys just using one. Any thoughts...
Thanks

Tony,

This is with one DreamWorks smoke injector and a Powerbox smoke pump at around 60% of max flow rate. Super-Dri smoke oil. More than adequate.

We did a little experimenting last weekend at Miss Afterburner and discovered that when using 2 of the 3/16" diameter "Super Stick" injectors, the smoke oil came out in solid streams. When we used just 1 injector, the oil came out in a nice spray (better for producing smoke).

We didn't test with the smaller "standard" injectors but I'm pretty sure 2 would both "spray" and work better than 1.

We also noticed that results varied depending on whether the injectors were in front of the thrust tube (generally better smoke), or behind/no thrust tube at all (i.e. KingCat type turbine mounting). Your results may vary.

FWIW, I'm using just 1 Super Stick injector and my smoke is VERY thick using both SuperDri and Kynetic.

Did someone say smoke?

Powerbox dual outlet with 2 dreamworks sticks. You have to be very carefull when you back off the throttle to near idle. If you are still pumping smoke oil you will get a afterburner fire when you come back on the throttle.
Better have a good Pipe! I have the Tams pipe so no harm here.

Kynetic smoke oil. The Best out there. I can get good results in the cooler months with keeper oil but when it gets hot it doesn't compare to the Kynetic.

It has been my experience that it will depend on what size engine you are running. Bigger engines want more smoke oil delivery. Be it more sticks, more voltage, etc.

If you are 180N or less, 1 stick should do you well.

I use a 2c lipo on my power box smoke pump separate and it will last for up to 10+ flights.

2 wands will burn about 50 ozs in 3 mins. I have used this set up with both a k180g and the current 210g.

Here is a FB video from last saturday evening.

I don't like that FB will not let you post the videos any where.

Wow guys nice pics. I just ordered two of the Tams. I will be using a 180 size turbine I figure if I'm going to go threw the work and extra weight I might as well install the second and maximize the smoke density. I will need nose weight for sure so is an A123 6.6v 2300ma batt. good or should I go with the higher voltage 2 cell lipo ? powerbox pump with a 40oz tank.

T-33 smoke system

I'm running a single tube for smoke in all my jets and it produces a lot of smoke. I happen to have Jetcat pumps, and a MPI and they all work fine. Other pumps on the market work equally as well. The density of smoke depends on the speed of the pump and speed of the plane. I run my Jet cat pumps on 9.9 V 1,100 ma 123 batteries, and MPI on 6.6V 2,500 ma. You just have to pick a pump speed and match it with your style of flying. Do a little trial and error. I found the Dreamworks tube has a curl on the end and that seems to disparage the fluid more and enhances the smoke trail. I happen to use Robart smoke fluid, but I'm sure other brands also work equally as well.
Bottom line; if you want good smoke your going to go through a lot of fluid.
K.O.
