JetCat P220 RXI

Anybody with any experience with this engine? Thoughts? I am thinking about trying one.

rbxbear44 12-21-2017 07:31 AM

Mike, I am in the same boat...220Rxi or 200RX??? Looks like the 200RX has a bit more thrust and is "proven", less electronics which can be good or bad :). I have a 200RX in my SM F-16 and it has been flawless for the past two seasons.

John Redman 12-21-2017 10:46 AM

The 220 RXi beats the 200RX hands down in output as well as installed weight. It is a bit over 1 pound lighter, more thrust. My 220 RXi was a cool 57 pounds of thrust on the stand when I tested it. It would easily push a fully fueled Ultra Bandit into a 600 foot loop on take off with no straight run and full fuel tanks. My Ultra Bandit had the big fuel tanks.

The 220 has an ECU in the plan and one simple harness to the turbine, nothing else unless you wish to utilize the battery charging system. I used the complete BMS unit and never charged batteries (either turbine or receiver).

I miss my 220 UB combo!!!

Mike Haddox 12-21-2017 01:14 PM

Thanks for the feed back. How does the fuel usage compare to the 200?

Dave Wilshere 12-21-2017 01:14 PM

I have a 220Rxi in my Mephisto, run it for the first time this week, started first go after simple priming to FOD. I'm not using the BMS, but it still charges the ECU pack back to 80%. The 220Rxi is actually about the same thrust as the 200Rx (230N) But like John said its a lot lighter and smaller.

Measured mine today real time at full power it was 845ml/min, but back off a little, like flight power and it was 600ish

John Redman 12-21-2017 01:26 PM

I also found the thrust output is very linear compared to all other engines so fuel usage seemed to be a bit less over the 200 class engines.

Nice to see you back on the forum John....:)

John Redman 12-21-2017 02:12 PM

Thanks Zeeb. Nice to be back. Sold most of my stuff earlier this year but still have a small BVM F-86 I need to install an engine in and get going again.

Thanks for the intel John. Very helpful.

Thanks everybody for the feed back.

I had such bad luck with their 180rx running in high humidity I have been afraid to try their 220. Does anyone know how it handles 100% humidity?

rbxbear44 12-22-2017 06:02 PM

Just ordered the 220RXi from Dreamworks today. They are running a bit of a discount right now and have a few in stock. Looking forward to a great new project and season!

Mike Haddox 12-22-2017 07:04 PM

I think I will do the same.

dos007 12-23-2017 04:45 AM

Rex have you heard how these version of JetCats handle humidity?

SkyKnight 12-23-2017 07:05 AM

I have 2 180Rx(s) that run fine down here in the Houston HHH. My Wingman has 2 220 RXI(s) and 1 180RX which run just fine as well. However, I should point out our Lead Solo did have an issue with an RXI but that was solved by switching to a 3 cell LiPo. Since that incident, others followed the same advice and now run 3 cell LiPos.

Running a 2s Li-Po on the 220Rxi (no BMS) and I now have over an hour on it and it's been perfect. 3s Li-Po is hard work for the electronics to drop down.

Mephisto flights today.

Marty, knowing your issues with the 180RXi and really, only hearing you had issues among many guys at GA Jets flying them all day long without issues...we reach 75-80% humidity during the summers and no one had issues. Of course, you are down in the swamps but so are the MIA/Ft. Lauderdale guys and they are running RXi's all day long. I am thinking you had a "lemon" maybe? I had a lemon...terrible experience...frustrating. As long as DW and George DelMoral is in the play for service...I am not concerned at all. Merry Christmas, brother!

John or Dave, any idea which FOD screen fits this 220RXi? I received the turbine...awesome! Dreamworks and Chief show a FOD screen that's 4.37 inches in Diameter and says it fits P60's to P-180RXi's. This isn't the most critical question in the world but any input would be helpful.

Wish these guys would just make FOD screens a part of the package...not asking for a freebie, just add $40-50 to the price.

that would make too much sense

They do a 220 FOD with the three notches, 6mm hole for the fuel line.
The P60 is smaller. The P100 slightly bigger, then the 140-160-180 and 220 share size. But the 180NX and 220Rxi share
There is now a moulded P200-300 FOD too.

i always offer the FOD with the sale...but I won’t sell on line, so I get to talk with customers and get them what they need.

Well, went to the Dreamworks site to finish up an order and looked one more time at the JetCat accessories and found the 220RXi FOD screen is now in stock with them, so I ordered one...$80!!! I know they were doing inventory this week and I guess they updated the site too, showing these for sale so I am good now!

One on left is 180NX and 220Rxi-B and one on right is P-200-P-300

The centre ring with notches rotates so the fuel lines always line up perfectly.

I have a P-220RXi-B with BMS in my Rebel Pro and have 57 flights, about 15 hours run time, and absolutely LOVE this motor! I am running the 220 FOD screen from DreamWorks.

The turbine has been issue free and not charging batteries has been fantastic, just make sure you unplug your batteries at the end of the day. I am very impressed with the BMS and will prefer to have that on any future jets.

The auto-ramp feature is nice, no more adjusting parameters for hot/high/cold/humid/dry weather. I haven't measured the installed thrust, but I have never wanted more thrust with my setup.

Would you say you 'easily' had unlimited, even accelerated vertical with this setup? I just took delivery of a CARF Rebel Pro and am in the market for a 220.
