Anyone able to measure their 1.8m Predator for width and length? I've tried emailing Pilot on FB and their site to see if the dimensions of my rabbit VT90 would fit and haven't got a reply (I can't make a telephone call during normal business hrs most days).

I'm really looking at the RTF version so I can get in the air quickly and get my waiver already this summer. My work schedule is destroying my build time (again).

I can't tell you for sure but the k85 fits. It is not much smaller that your engine. The pics I have seen have plenty of length room. At worst you would have to remove an 1/8" per side to get the diameter fit.

K-85
Specifications:
Diameter: 82mm ( 3.22" )
Length: 228mm ( 8.97")
Weight: 880g (1 lb 14oz)

There are videos of the plane flying with the enjet 80 I found these specs for that engine. Even closer to your engine.

ENJET E80 Turbine

I was really worried about that diameter more than anything.......this is only 1mm off so it looks like I should be good. Now if I can only find 5mins to get out of my building to call and order one!!!!!

Somebody got the new predator 1.8m yet? I was wondering how well it is build and how good it flies?

sweetpea01 05-23-2018 12:38 PM

I got ahold of Tony....he stated my Turbine would fit....also got ahold of T-1 and my turbine wouldn't fit the mini for reference (its 120mm mounting). But I've been looking at some other options that are readily available and slightly cheaper that my turbine will fit.

Has anyone gotten one of these in the air yet? I am real interested in it, but I can't find much info.

1.8 predator

I believe im the first to have one flying here in Australia
fhe plane flys quite well for a small jet . Im using an ACE 60 TURBINE of grass seems to get airborne ok in around 100mtrs
change the servo mounts to ali and dont use the wood
ive been doing some playing around with the CG . Balancing it right way up and upside down there is a big difference in the CG .ive found it to be very nose heavy but im working to fix the issue .
all the hardware is good . Rettacts are good
although ive found i have to plug the battery in at the start of each flight
all the fuel system components are good quality too
one thing i didnt like was the big opening for the nose wheel so i made my own door . Apart from that its stock standard https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...bebee02080.jpg

Carbon door and a small flap at the front

Jeremy_D 12-09-2018 03:06 PM

About to start on mine! Jets Munt M70 going in this
Quality is superb as is the finish

Looks good! Anyone has any problems with the live hinges? Flaps are a bit though to move to full deflection and discovered a small broken piece of the flaps live hinges. Anyone any solution for this? I was thinking to cut the flaps off the wing and attache it back on with hinges/tape or silicone hinges.

Jeremy_D 01-04-2019 11:17 PM

Hi Christiaan,

didnt have any any issue with my flaps. My
build is progressing now that I’m back from my break. Have the engine in, fuel system is just about hooked up and starting to populate the equipment board.

I am changing the stock gear controller out for a Xicoy unit. The stock one works fine but I don’t like the fact you have to unplug the battery when the receiver is turned off so going with the Xicoy to fix that. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c82aca6d7.jpeg

Does anyone have a source for wing bags for this jet? Kind of surprised it doesn't come with them.

Jeremy_D 02-08-2019 03:54 AM

I just used a set of the hobbyking bags for my wings

About to pull the trigger on a turbine-ready version with the same scheme design as yours but red/white/black/silver. Wish there was more info on these jets, but based on overall impressions of the larger viper seem good. Mine will get the Swiwin 80.

Jeremy_D 02-10-2019 03:05 AM

I should fly mine soon. Got some build photos and comments on my FB page on the build. Overall very straightforward. Came it at 7.9kg dry so should fly well with the M70

Hope this helps. Feel free to message if you have any questions. Once I’ve flown it I’ll post up the results. Won’t be for another couple of weeks.

Cheers

Jeremy

Cool. Pulled the trigger. Didn't realize they came on a slow boat, so won't see mine until late April. The SW80B from CRXturbines.com is actually rated at a little more than 80N of thrust, almost like an 85, so I should have a screamer! I build simple so I shouldn't be too heavy.

bodywerks 02-19-2019 04:56 AM

Change of plans - found a 2.2 RTF with wing n fuse bags, less turbine, for roughly the same price so I canceled the 1.8 order

AEROSHELDON 02-19-2019 12:47 PM

Score!!! That is one sharp scheme too, maybe the best one of all.

Awesome deal.

g'day gents
ive flown my 1.8 predator with the ace60 in it
after a few flights i couldnt figure out why i had so much up trim , even after moving the ECU battery as far as i could go safely it didnt change the trim and needed a fair amount of right aileron trim
so out came the incidence meter , and to my amazement everything was wrong
ive been speaking to jeremy_d about this issue and he has come up with the same problem , dont take the fuse moldings as being correct and accurate !!!! THEY ARE FAR FROM BEING CORRECT
it would pay for anyone who builds one to check it over as myself and jeremy have done
according to pilot everything is ment to be set at 0 degree's the left wing is 0 with the engine mounts BUT the right wing needed to be moved 1.5mm down on the leading edge to be at 0
both tail planes were again checked and were found to have .-5 degrees of incidence ,, left tail plane lines up with the fuse moulding (although still out of WACK ) but the right doesnt
I do like the look of the plane BUT it does need work ,, and now its getting repowered with a jets munt VT80 the 60 flies it fine but its not fast
as jeremy said the down fall is having to unplug the gear and break control unit after each flight ,, it stays on when the plane is turned of ..
so now all the incidence measurements and been checked and corrected ,,, so hopefully it flies as good as it looks

Jeremy_D 03-23-2019 01:52 AM

Finally got the first flights done today. Great flying jet. Needed a few clicks of up elevator trim for level flight even though my cg was spot on if not slightly reward which was corrected after the second flight. Using a Jets Munt M70 which is a great power combination. Cruises around nicely on 50% power with plenty of punch at full throttle. 7 minute flight time and only used just over a litre of fuel (tank is 2L).

It’s very stable in the air and slows down nicely for landing, looking forward to putting in more flights on it

airborn900 03-23-2019 08:39 AM

Anyone know the capacity of the smoke tank?

Jeremy_D 03-23-2019 01:25 PM

Doesn’t have one. It has a 2L fuel tank. You could maybe fit a tank on the floor of the model under the main fuel tank

airborn900 03-23-2019 03:07 PM

Meant to post that in the 2.2m thread. My apologies
