Ultra Precision air cylinders
is there a way to remove the end? I have one that has blow by when the gear door is open. It’s been this way since I bought the cylinder but just found it, I thought it was leaking elsewhere but recently pulled the tomcat apart and found it. |

I had a similar issue with one of my Sierra custom retracts on my Hunter. I called Darrel and he said to not use BVM Super-Lube as it is too thin. He fills up each cylinder he makes with Dow Corning grease (as used by Ultra Precision) using a syringe and then forces it back out by pushing the piston back in by hand. Also rotate the piston multiple times to spread the grease around inside. Grease it from both sides. I used a 3mL syringe and a short piece of 4mm fuel tube pushed over the end of the syringe. Don't need much grease. Start with the retract piston fully compressed and then pull out the piston to create a vacuum and at the same time push the grease in with the syringe. Dow Corning Molykote 55 O-Ring grease also causes the rubber to swell slightly, helping achieve a good seal. Available on Amazon. I tried it and it seems to work well. Thanks Paul, yeah I agree with the bvm stuff being a bit too thin. I have never had it actually work on an air cylinder but figure it couldn’t hurt. I would have to order the other stuff, John said he would replace it but I will definitely order some of the correct stuff for O rings to have for the future. |
