cf tube vs steel rod for stab?

can we use a carbon fiber tube for full flying stabs or is it better to use full steel rod.?

its going on 1/10 f-14 stabs with 3/8 inch clamp type control horn

If you mean the conventional pultruded CF rods you see at the local hobby shop, i wouldnt, they dont fare well against axial loading and fail pretty easily. And i especially wouldnt since you’ll be clamping something to it.

In addition to what Thomas said, there are a lot of considerations like what kind of steel is it.. good A36 or a good SS(stainless) and not some kind of mild steel that bends easily. Steel is good in compression and tension but heavy where carbon is mainly good in tension and of course much lighter. For a short spar application in an elev, the benefits of clamping make steel or other metal ideal. Alum is also used, but again different grades so you have to be careful to be sure you use actual T6061 structural type and not some hardware store grade.

Why not get some titanium rods. Mcmaster carries a good selection.
