Tariffs?

Hi Guys.
If you bought a new kit directly from a Chinese manufacturer or bought it through a US dealer but it was shipped from China to your home, will you have to pay a tariff? If so how is it imposed?

What about sending your Jet Central engines back to Mexico for servicing? Is there a Tariff on the return trip?

Thanks,
Dom

No tariffs on mexico went into effect, the bulk of chinese tariffs go into effect July 6th, we will see if they make it.

I just had some jets delivered to my warehouse this week from EMS & DHL and I paid no Tariffs.

Surprised that this thread hasn't resurfaced or that another one on the same subject has been started. I hope China quickly decides to stop its nonsense so these tariffs will go away. Or, and it's a big or, American labor decides to cool it on wage increases so we can get made in America meaning something again.

A discussion on tariffs as they affect the hobby = OK

Any political diatribes = well....you can figure it out :)

I was never a fan of something that looks like an airplane as soon as you open the box, especially a sport plane. But I know that's how the vast majority of people participate in the hobby. If tariffs push more people to imagine, design, machine, build, finish and fly, I will take that as a plus. I thoroughly enjoy seeing a scratch built model fly.

As you can see, nothing is unbelievable

I'd say there is some confusion about who pays and when at this point.

Article in one of the Internet publishing outfits today said a Minnesota farmer had ordered $22,000.00 worth of cattle feed before the Tariffs started, from a Canadian supplier thinking he'd beat the Tariff. He said when the order showed up at his place yesterday, he had to pay the 25% Canadian Tariff or send it back.

Be tough to order anything from abroad now. Specially kits etc.

Scratch builders will become many peoples BFF soon enough :D

I tried to beat the tariff with an order for a popular model shipped from a US Supplier, before even the first round was to go into effect. It shipped right away, received just after they went into effect. But no joy - there was still a $50 tariff surcharge added to the total. A buddy tried to buy a new radio, that was subject to a 10% tariff surcharge....luckily at the last minute he found a used version.

To the OP - the supplier is supposed to pay the tariff. They can charge you, or not, the additional. With the order to disallow the "de minimus" exemption for orders shipped directly, that means customs and others need to inspect and validate that the tariff has been paid. That is causing a huge problem in those areas - no staff, systems or processes, etc. to do this huge task. We'll just have to see whether there is a mountain of individual packages piling up at US points of entries in the future. Wait times may get "a bit" longer to receive your order!

price of jets have gone crazy anyway should be plenty in it for them to be made in USA, most were just taking the easy way out getting them made in china, if you can afford to buy a $10-20000 jet then you can afford to buy one US made, the tarrifs will get sorted but will never be the same there will be a tarriff/duty on chinese stuff to encourage more american made products thats his plan, and every country should be doing the same the world relies too much on china the covid years showed that.
In my own company we got badly caught out and had to shut down for a period, 70% of our components used to come from china is now only about 10% majority now comes from france, germany, poland and czech republic big difference is quality, chinese stuff may have been cheap but we either returned or scraped 15% each batch its zero now
