Where do we set the limits
 

I remember when I dreamed day and night to the moment when I had all the money to buy my first lightly used Simjet 2300 turbine, I had to sell all of my ducted fan equipment and some other stuff, I finally got it and end up enjoying that engine for a few years till it went in riding my first jet ( Kangaroo, lost sight of it, cataracts started to act up ) with it :( by then I had a second engine and had flown a few other jets, those are priceless memories.

Today I was thinking when could I get this K100 ( lightly used of course ) that has been offered to me, this will be my 6th engine if I buy it, I have 1 13 lbs, 2 19 lbs, 1 27 lbs and 1 31 lbs now, that makes 5 gas burners, a few moments ago I was thinking....... enough is enough, no more, I don't like wrenching too much, having too many engines and jets + my two gas airplanes and my 4 nitro powered airplanes and an electric glider is ENOUGH to keep me busy for the year to come.

How many is enough for you, do you need more or do you want more? Is Santa bringing you a new engine or a new jet?

Budget and storage space helps to control my hobby addiction. I am happy to say that I have reduced my turbine-powered models from eleven large models to five. Currently have a collection of turbine models, edfs, giant scale gasser, electric helis, and prop planes (roughly 26 models). My New Years resolution is to resist my impulses to buy more planes, and to reduce the total number of models in my inventory to 15 by the middle of …:rolleyes:

Addiction is a key word here.

Wish Santa to let me finish my current projects. as they use to take years to get ready to fly. The F-35 is almost ready to maiden and I have a custom cut laser kit of a Argentine Aero Boero , a 100cc gas powered J3 like airplane that is in its bare bones.. anyway, merry Christmas Carlos and all reading this.

The limiting factors are as always ....space between the walls of your home and your wallet. I had over 40 airplanes before Ilearned this lesson. These are your 1/4 and 1/5th scale variety

I am there myself. I have 9 turbine jets 6 radial engines and a dozen other multi cylinder engines all sitting in charge and fly planes. That's NOT counting the 12-15 arfs still sitting in boxes.
I am at a point where it is to overwhelming to deal with. I have not been to the field in over a year now, just to much work that does not outweight the effort. Its very sad as I used to dream about just having that TopFlite Gold warbird kit on the top shelf of the Hobby shop for $200. Now I have 20-30 plane at $3500- $5000 each and not much interest in going out.

So now it explains how rc manufactures live off hoarders 😀, so my golden role is that don’t buy a before your a sale something or finish building and my magic number is 10 all rtf so if I have 11 one needs to go to new home and than I’m starting building that extra one.

What Tim said describes how I feel some times, specially when I think of taking my Boomerang to the field, it takes time to put it togather and that holds me back.

I also wanted that TF warbird you are talking about and I got it, I still have it and got to fly it recently.

During winter I don't fly that much because of the rain and cold, daylight hours are short also, some of you guys don't fly at all, flying time is reduced drastically, because of that I like to have a sport airplane ready to go at any given time, the simplest airplane I have in my inventory, this way I can keep my skills sharp and it also gives me a chance to practice new maneuvers without risking an expensive model, I think it is valuable to do this to get out of the same routine of just flying at one place and flying the same maneuvers all over again and yes, I just added this sport airplane to my inventory + 1 :( ( OS Max 61, Mac pipe, 11/7 APC prop, 11,300 static )

I'm gone to work and this airplane is in my car at the moment, Tuesday I get a break from work, the plan is to go to my first flying club to get some flights in there, the idea is get familiar with the field again in preparation for my return with the Reaction 54, that is one of the reasons I build it, to bring it to some of the small local fields that allow turbine flights during winter.

Talking about not having more airplanes, I have a few more small projects to complete THEN, I have to, want to, will to build me a DV8R, that will be my 2020 build, yeap! one more airplane to add to the inventory, this project won't be easy and it will take the better part of 2020.

And this is where I set my limits as far as wood sport jets goes.

I think I've been building way too much recently and not enough flying.

Over the past 35yrs I have become a MASTER at how to use every square inch of my 500sq ft shop area. Double/triple rows all the way to the ceiling. I use to do a sell off every 4-5yrs and kept it at a reasonable amount 12-15 planes after the sell off. Just have not had the time to do it lately. It will be known as I spam the sites with it all.

I always keep a small plane as well for the I just want to go out. That is a little Meridian .60. Always fun!! Others at the field look at me crazy saying. WHY do you bring that out when you have the Good stuff. My reply- Its EASY!!

And Yes, Most RC Hobby retailers know my name!

My limit is my wallet only buy cash....as to how many........I will stop right at the moment I die....which I Hope is many many years from now...we only live once may as well do something I love...with my wife.

This is crazy talk. There are no limits....

my wife came into into my shop a couple months ago, did a scan around and stopped.... said, you know, if you painted them all the same color, I wouldn’t be able to tell when you brought a new one home. :D she just sighed and walked out...

Paul, agreed, this is crazy talk.

My wife likes to bring stuff in the garage, this is just after I cleaned it by moving all the stuff she dumped there, right in the midle of it, solution, I cleaned it again then I used duck tape to make a division between my part of the garage where I build and use and her stuff, when she saw that, she laughed so hard and walked away, the only thing I said to myself was, ooooh man :(

Tim, I also have become a master of using every bit of open space in my garage, most of my airplanes are on a rack above and some are on the walls, mostly to keep them away form my significant other, just in case :)

I like to keep things simple...
1. See plane
2. Buy plane
3. If no letter from wife’s attorney reminding me of “the agreement”, repeat step 1
4. If letter is received from wife’s attorney, them]n sell one plane, repeat step 1.

Having 4 nitro planes in this day and age, you clearly have no limits! :cool:

Come to think of it I also have exactly 4 still, but only 1 has flown in the past 2 or 3 years.

My wife has always told me I had a 10 plane limit, and if I went over she would sell any plane she wanted for her own hobbies, While this is really a joke, it has helped me stay more focused. I have at many times sold 3 so so planes to buy one great sweet plane or jet. Over the years this has me now in an odd place where I would say almost every one of my 10 planes and 2 in the works are all what I would consider amazing or over the top to most people. But as today is a odd day in Ohio where we are going to hit 50 deg with odd winds in the middle of winter, I find my self in a situation where I don't have anything Im willing to risk flying on a not so ready field with somewhat high winds as my cheapest plane is (prop Ziorli P40 with DLE 85, Or jet ME163 Komit with K180)

The wife at one time bought me a dry eraser board, so I could put any issues I had with each plane, as one of the issues of having so many planes and jets, is you may fly it 3 times that day and on the last flight got an air leak, put it away then forgot about the issue, pull it out 3 months later ready to fly and refind your issue. This is when you have to many, when you cant keep up with potential failures and yearly maintenance issues.

I bet you would.......sure, aha! ha ha ha :)
