carf eurosport nose steering servo
Hi, Just started building a carf Eurosport. I am using the electron gear set. The nose gear has the steering tiller sticking out of the fuselage. I am wondering how the servo needs to be installed to make this work. Attaching a pic for reference.
Note the ball link is sticking out of the fuse. Is this normal? Seems like I will need to attach a push rod to this and drive it with a servo installed sideways... quite odd. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...a6d95bcba9.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f9fc143aa3.jpg |
I think that you need to glue the main plate up higher than the picture I have 3 eurofighters and in all of them the former is much higher than yours
|
And all of them have pull-pull system the servo is instead right behind the front tire and the cables goes on the sides and the strut between them
|
The carbon gear plate came PRE GLUED from the factory. I have only just kept the gear on it... Still scratching my head....

Dremel out the fus to clear the tiller arm radius. The servo will side mount in the gap on the gear structure using a plywood plate. An M3 clevis works better than a ball link with a short cranked push rod.

I used a standard wood servo hub and glued it inside the fuse, while the servo arm is in direct line with the gear arm. Moves perfectly, the strut and wheel are extracting just beside the servo arm and rod, with plenty of room. No more wires for this setup... Good luck, Ziv |
Thanks for the pics Ziv. This is what I had thought of as well, just found it very unconventional and hence the questions here. I wonder what will happen if the wheel twists a bit while going up or down?
Thanks again. |
Hi Ragz,
So far it looks great. No issues when the wheels goes up or down. Works much better than the wire system. Ziv |
Does anyone have a pic of the setup on the JP gear on the new Ultimate? I wonder if it is better than this setup which does seem strange...
|
The trailing leg acts like a wind vane and stays straight. I add some axle grease to the pin to stop it flopping about too loose. I still favour the pull pull cables, centring is the best, you just run a 100mm length of snake tube hysol’d to each side of the opening to stop the cable’s snagging. On the Ultimate we did we took more of the skin away in a half butterfly to clear the arms swing and mounted the unit further forward.

Very nice!! Where did you get the aluminum plate??
|
I ordered the pieces from Electron.
|
Perfect. Thanks.
|
Is the electron servo plate shown above considered the "short plate" or long( for inverted applications)?
Thanks! |
I have tried reaching inside the model and taking a measurement and it appears to be the 96mm standard servo mount.
|
Thanks, greatly appreciated!

Hi Neil, finally finishing up the Eurosport and discovered that using the servo plate configuration (with the different trunion) doesn’t swing the gear 100 degrees. Did you just shim the landing gear bracket to achieve this?
|
After 12+ years, I finally setup my CARF Eurosport steering like Neil did. My gear is from Robart, and I got the plate from them. Now it *finally* steers well!
Sometime you have to use pull-pull, but generally, it sucks compared to direct steering... Bob |
Theses are the only two photos I can find.
I used a piece of carbon plate as a spacer to clear the servo bracket when retracting. The trunion I used was the 100 degree one. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...7f31dda57.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...416bf253d.jpeg |
Ahh i see. I Swapped the trunion out for the 90 degree to make it all work. So its the 100 deg with a carbon spacer. Did you have to grind or modify the trunion at all?
