Anyone flying one of these or know someone who is or has flown it?
Looking for a put in the back of the truck and go fly jet. What is the overall thought on it?

Hi Joe hope you are doing well. I started flying a Rebel Hot this summer and I must say the smaller jets are still a blast. A friend has an Avanti with an X45 and Robert Schenck has both a Hot and a T1 mini, We had a blast. Try the Hawk and let us know!

The Sebart Scale jets are really nice, Glass fuse, With nice gear and struts preinstalled. The MB339 flies really nice on an X or K45.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Hawk. Going to put my trusty K80 in it. When I get it and start on it I might do an Assembly thread on it

I'm assembling mine now...really a nice product!
I purchased and installed JP electric brakes (5mm axle/65mm wheel). With very little filing on the gear strut, the fit will be perfect.

Bob, Nice to hear there is someone else assembling one. Curios has to why you updated the wheels and brakes?
Do you have any pics of yours?

It does not come with brake equipped wheels

A friend has one with a SW80, has maybe 10/15 flights on it, seems to fly great, my friend says it has good handling, very predictable on landings. It looks great, I feel it may be a bit draggy, my Joker with the same engine is considerably faster, other than that I would say it is a great buy!

As was mentioned, the jet does not come with brakes. The JP electric brakes comes as a set with 2@ axles, brakes, and wheels...as well as 1@ controller for the whole setup.
The sizes are 5mm axle and 65mm wheel for the direct replacement.

Hi,

The stall is pretty abrupt. In some of the available videos, you'll see it drop a wing right before touchdown. I found that although with a headwind you can get it to a crawl, the angle at which the wing stalls is flatter than you'd like. I set up my radio (DX-12) to add some reflex in the ailerons when my elevator is in the last 1/4" of stick throw (full up). Worked like a charm. Totally eliminated the aggravated stall (which was pretty dramatic) and the low-speed landing stall.

All wings with that shape will have an abrupt stall if it is slowed down too much, as Shaun mentioned, you must use reflex on the Ailerons to thame the wing on low speeds.

In my limited experience with Phoenix models, I found the retracts overall quality to be substandard. How are they on this one?

I have installed and tested the retracts (and also installed JP electric brakes).
They work well so far and appear to be stout.
Although I won't be able to test them in actual operation for awhile, flying videos of this model show them taking punishment in landing without any damage.

I will assume the gear on this jet are the same as the ones on my 30cc PC21, they feel loose BUT, so far after many landings in over a year they are holding air for ever and are still working just fine, make sure you use a strong servo on the retract valve, it will need it.

I'm on my second set of gear. The first ones went through some stall-bounces on a particularly bad landing and the struts got bent up. They're $200, but they send them with those useless no-brake wheels.

Also, if you build one, you need to replace the tank stopper. It's for glow.

Yeah...the JP brakes work well, though. And they're less than $100.
On another note, how do you have your flight surfaces set up? Do you have the throws set as recommended?

A buddy of mine bought one and is powering it with a p70. He was having high temperature shut downs after start up. I looked at the pipe that comes with it and the diameter is very small for a p70 in my opinion. We're going to try some other things before replacing the supplied pipe with one that has a slightly larger diameter.

Could be you have the tail cone of the engine too deep into the bell mouth if its an older engine with the temp probe in the tail cone. Or you may have an issue with the Temp probe. Pull the engine and run it on a test stand.

The turbine I'm going to install is being upgraded at the factory...plus it is really cold outside!
