Some of that nose lead can be converted into cockpit detail, pilot, etc... :)

kevinthoele 08-10-2022 01:45 PM

Awesome job. Looks like it flies very well

jetjon 08-10-2022 06:08 PM

Absolutely incredible design and build!....you have proven that the materials can turn a large model into a tame aircraft....great job, Sir!

jcterrettaz 08-10-2022 06:59 PM

Magnifique , gorgeous flight ..the plane look so stable . amazing

Kristola 08-11-2022 02:37 AM

Yes Ron.

Nose gear doors, huge pitot spear and cockpit area will reduce amount of lead.
I'm surprised the flying qualities. I remember seen some flight videos of model MIG-21, but this doesn't feel the same.
I hope there is readers who can share their hurdles with model MIG-21. There must have been some obstacles, even if plane have been built from a kit.

Selleri 08-11-2022 04:37 AM

Congratulations, looks good in the air and seems to handle well!

I do not have one and have never flown one, but having seen a few over the years in video and in person I've never seen any model MiG-21 that looks to fly even half as well on their 20th or more flight as yours did on a maiden.

JKEpps 08-11-2022 11:39 AM

Absolutely amazing! What size turbine is in it?

Halcyon66 08-11-2022 01:13 PM

2 Attachment(s)
May be of interest to some, Project Have Doughnut. The US did research on a 21 back in the late 60's, bit of reverse engineering.

Regards,

Mig 21s fly amazingly well. I had a FB with a Jet Central Eagle and did several test flights on a friend's Airworld. Fast responsive and easy to land.

perttime 08-11-2022 09:57 PM

I suppose there is no reason why a MiG-21 wouldn't fly well, especially at a good weight.
Not sure if I have mentioned it but I consider the MiG-21 F13 one of the most graceful aircraft shapes. The later versions with the thick spines not so much....

Does this one have the power and structure to go faster?
It has been a while since I saw a full size one in the air - but the maiden video made me wish for a little more speed.

Kristola 08-11-2022 11:58 PM

Engine is 250 Atom from Jet Italia.
Good to hear about positive experiences and flying characteristics.
I have no idea what I'm doing/dealing with, since I have done only one flight.

At last I spendt some time developing retract electronics REV2.
Most of the HW-stuff is built as prototype and tested in lab.
Next phase is to test this fragile prototype with actual landing gear and try to simulate some of the strains, that air flow and G-forces bring to the system.

Friend has a AW Mig-21, he's going to maiden it this week, its powered by an upgraded SW220>240

Kristola 08-28-2022 10:02 AM

That is fantastic!
Lucky landings:D

Hi all

I have flown my MIG now, maybe 10-15 flights. During winter I updated retract-controllers and their logic for main landing gears and after few flights I also updated nose gear controller.
Until now lead have been removed 325g from nose and and some more removing is planned.
Lighter elevators are in the pipeline, which results 400g weight savings when lead removed from nose is added.

Gear door actuators were designed using chinese geared motors, but while I was testing them they turn out to be garbage. So, having doors is delayed.

Plane flies very well. Rolls are beautiful and all control axes are balanced. I have't really dialed any gyro settings yet.

There is one problem. White base color is difficult to see, so visible paint scheme is needed. Finnish MIG-21 F13 are plain silver, so visibility is not much better using that color scheme.
I wonder if any of fellows reading this have good idea where I can found Canadian Redhawk MIG-21 F13 pictures and documentation, or if someone have better idea for color scheme?

Kristola 07-06-2023 03:24 AM

That april fools story would be nice to realize in 2/7 format. Then I could take many freedoms with my paint scheme, or maybe I should create even better story and color scheme:rolleyes:

I had this FB Mig 21. The scheme shouted out...here I am! Airplane flew amazingly well also.

Yeah, there is a lot of color schemes for other than F-series. I probably have to take that route if there is no sensible color scheme for original prototype.

Last weekend in Karlskoga Jet Power gathering. Great fun with great people.

Flight line seems to be far away.
