Grass Fields
ok iv only flown my rebel hot off of grass and it seems like the turbine wants to suck as mush loose grass as it can on to the fod screen. does everybody elese have this problem ? my biggest worry is about it starting a fire.
|
That’s true of all turbine airframes. The nose wheel in the Rebel case kicks up a lot of grass. Fit a deflector shield at the back of the nose wheel opening. You can just see my clear sheet through the mess of tube and wire!

I've been thinking about making some sort of "mudguard" that goes right on the nose strut and hugs the wheel.
Don't know yet if it's feasable at all, and what the effects would be in the winter when the wheel also picks up mud. |

Good idea Dave.

Never use lock wire. Even in the 220N units, just the tube ring.
When it’s wet like yesterday I also screw up two sheets of kitchen towel and put this behind the deflector plate to catch any water spun off the nose wheel. Before cleaning https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...fd0c95e7b.jpeg |
Yikes, what a mess, glad I get to fly off paved runways.

Ha
A club would have to spend a Million to get that around here! |

Yeah, spoiled here also. 2 great local fields.
Fort Worth Thunderbirds - 480' x 40' about 20 mins from the house. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...e7acbb5ad7.jpg Heart of Texas (HOTMAC) at Waco - 800' x 80' about 90 miles away. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...ce2bad3ca5.jpg I'm a member of both clubs. Both are very jet friendly. Paul |
You guys are spoiled 😳
I've never even flown a jet off a paved runway. The only paved runways i've flown off were when I was still pylon racing regularly...defunct cold war airstrips and such. |
Hi guys.
I don´t think anyone is more spoiled than us in my club. Take a look at the photos in the clubs web page. www.cach.cl Regards Eduardo |
Down here where I live, I am not even aware of a club with tarmac runways..... my only chance (once or twice a year) to fly of bitumen is when we have special events organised at full-size runways. It is an absolute highlight of my flying year.

Ya, GA Jets outside Macon GA has 1000 foot paved and the grass in the pits is nicer than any runway I've flown off of. Limited membership with a waiting list and jets only or they have priority if you bring a jet and something else to fly. Even a kerosene tank/pump in the club house if you need to buy some fuel
I wish I lived closer, its almost 6h for me to get there but I'll never miss Super Jets South again. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f9f80b5d84.jpg |
We have a Lot of nice fields in this country! :) Some are just a little further from you.
