1/4" pin for Prolink retract.
Does anyone have a 1/4" pin spare? I banged my Turbinator on the nose hard today ( the airplane is fine ) the nose gear pin got bent.

Robart sells them

You can get a1/4 rod cut the length and put a groove around the top and put a c clip on it. It also easer to replace and or in an emergency a door hinge pin works if your easy on the landings.
|
You can make one out of a 1/4" bolt.

I use Ejector Pins, you can purchase from McMaster Carr or any Tool and Die supply, cut to length with a cut off tool, and grind the head to thickness on a bench grinder chucked in a hand drill to rotate as you grind.

Thank all for the suggestions, I will check them all.

These can be purchased at local hardware store. Cut to length & grind down head as Rich mentioned above. Have done so a couple times. Local & inexpensive.

Carlos,
Private messaging did not provide a method of attaching a picture, so I'll post it here. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f3861b03b3.jpg Is this the pin you are looking for? As you can see the pin is .247". The pin ( actually an axle ) appears to be steel. The brass bushing is .4999". Cheers, John |
Guys, your pin's ideas are fantastic and I will be trying them soon, I ordered two 1/4 " and two 6mm pins for my Reaction 54 nose retract, on that one the pin came too short and also needs replacement, John has offered me two 1/4" pins that he has, I'm taking them also and appreciate his generosity very much.
I will post my results here. Thank you |
Guys
I got the pins from John ( thank you for your generosity and kindness ) they actually came a few days ago, I finally got home from work to find all kind of goodies on my garage table, it feels like early X-mas 😀 I also got me two 1/4" and two 6mm release pins from McMaster-Carr to experiment with them, I'm also curious to see how the Cap screw will work, I will get a pair from HD to experiment. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...187d9516d4.jpg |
All done, adding the new pull-pull cables.
Off to the LHS to get a servo and some hardware, haven't been there in ages 🙃 https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...3c11e33d2c.jpg |
All done!
New nose gear pin, added 3 Oz of lead to the nose to compensate for the lighter nose prolink retract, new rudder servo and a few nick nacks that needed to be added or fix. Ready to fly strong again. :) https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f19e6e2a52.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...8d6241e860.jpg |
Grind one of the release pins and it works perfectly and I only use the tools you see in the picture to get it to size and thickness.
