Storing many model jets - how do you do it?
 

Hi everyone,

I have been in this hobby for almost 50 years and have accumulated many models over the years. As one gets older you need to down size and cut back, but it is easier said than done. Going also from a large shed to a townhouse with much less space.

I have gotten rid of all the small stuff I had and quite a few bigger models. But I still have 22 models in the 2.5 × 2.5 meter range which I need to get into the space of a bit more than a single garage. I would also like to have enough space to work on a model when needed.

If you have any ideas of how I can store my models effectively, allowing for movement and accessibility, I will appreciate the input.

I don't know if you can get the brand ELFA where you live, but these two styles seem to work well and can be a bit modular. Here we get them at The Container Store. One hangs from a bracket that is attached to the wall, and the other is "freestanding" and can even have the shelf brackets on both sides if you wanted to.

Apart from the usual racks & shelves I use bicycle storage hangers. Attached to the ceiling of the garage you just winch them up out of the way Most tradesmen have graduated to fibreglass ladders so there's lots of old wooden extension ladders laying around. I have one of these suspended from the ceiling at one end with the other end swinging down to load it then lifted up out of the way.

One thing to think about with these methods is oil/fuel dripping on your car from the models,

A friend who lived in a townhouse with just a single garage, but lots of height, built a work
platform at one end of the garage which overlapped the bonnet of his car which was his workshop for many years.
