Fastest R/C jet model?

I was just curious if anyone knew what the 'official' current world high speed record is for an R/C turbine powered model jet...? Would 420 kph be up there?!

Not really. Seems there are pretty reliable reports of over 300 mph, several way over 300 mph (483 kph)

Matt- I am really interested to here if there is any 'officially' recognized and verifiable speed record currently held by any individual for a turbine powered aircraft? I have heard also of the random claims over the years but what about an actually legitimate record?? and is there actually an official max speed record?

Cheers[8D]

You could try contacting Guiness World Records, they might have something.

Yep maybe just worth contacting Guiness as there does not appear to be any current official speed records listed for 'any' R/C model aircraft??? under the Guiness search engine on the topic.
Thats weird as I was under the impression that the outright R/C aircraft speed record was held by an R/C glider set some years back?

No record will make sense unless the model fits into some defined category of "Model Airplane". After all, drones have been piloted over the speed of sound. The FAI is the organisation that establishes records in aviation, models included. Check with their rules to see if there is a record category established for turbine models. Guinness is questionable at best since IMO they don't really establish solid criteria for establishing a record.

[sm=drowning.gif] The official and verified speed record is held in England by Steve Elias. The plane was a BVM Bandit (specially built by Ian Richardson) powered by a shoe horned AMT Olympus. (yes an Olympus!) For a full report and speed details check out AMT Netherlands website there is a section on it with photos. I beleive it is about 276mph average recorded in 2 directions clocked on radar. I have seen this plane fly, many people have said they have '300mph' planes but i have seen nothing compared with this! The truth is it would probably go much faster but Steve can only leave the throttle open for a few seconds before he has to chop and pull verticle! if not it is out of site.
