Stingray Elevon throw

Hello guys,

Does anyone know the correct throw for the elevons on a Stingray? The manual lists throws for aileron and elevator, but does not tell me it I should add them (ie full up with with full right roll should move the starboard elevon this much).

Also, what CG location are you guys running?

Thanks in advance

RE: Stingray Elevon throw

Hey Matt,

Set up the throws independently and it'll do fine. I don't know what the combined throws are. I cut down the aileron throw to 60% of spec and made that my high rate with ~25% expo. The manual's recommended aileron throw is a bit excessive. I added 1/4" of elevator throw to the manual's spec with about the same expo. The elevator reflex should be ~3/16" up. This was with the CG 1/8" ahead of the recommended position, with the gear down and UAT full. If you're careful, you can probably get this by moving equipment around, no weight added to counterbalance.

Get that thing flying already.:D

I hear you, I cannot seem to get any real momentum, just to much real work.

So I take it you have about 1 1/4" elevator, on top of the 3/16" reflex, or is the 3/16 reflex included in the 1 1/4"?

And for aileron, you are running about 1/2"? (same question about the reflex)

Thanks again,

RE: Stingray Elevon throw

Hey matt,

Yup, set the elevons to 3/16" up first. Then set the elevator travel to their spec (adding 1/4" in each direction in my case). Then independently set the aileron travel using the same 3/16" reflex up as the center point (reducing it to 60% of spec in my case). I haven't experimented with much in the way of inverted flight so you will likely need to increase the downward elevator throw to combat the reflex needed in regular flight.

This is just a start point that I've used so far. You'll find that the ailerons on their own don't really extend too far in down, and rather far up in comparison on the opposite wing due to the reflex. I haven't put a lot of thought into it so there's probably some room to play around and make it roll closer to on center. It might take a little less up travel and more down but you'll probably find that out before I do... I'm going to start adjusting the throws some more when the weather gets better next spring. For now its just another a hanger queen...[:o]
